Reach Church

We’ll look at the practical implications and applications of the gifts of God's Holy Spirit. We want God to be active among us, and He shares that desire in full perfection. Our role is to not get in the way of all the Father wants to do.

As Paul corrects the Corinthians in their ordering of the gifts, we see the wonder of the Holy Spirit. The gifts themselves are just more of Him, and He has come to bring strength, encouragement, and comfort to His people. 

Love. It's weird that we speak of love in relation to other people, God and insignificant things like tacos. Has “love” lost its soul in our culture? After all, God is love. Paul might have wondered the same for Corinth and her young church. This Sunday we will attempt to scratch the surface of love as the binding agent to a diverse array of spiritual gifts in the local church. 

As Paul lists some beautiful facets of the Holy Spirit's gifts of grace, we will survey all of the Spirit’s gifts mentioned in the New Testament. Together we’ll chart a course into joyful deployment of every gift in the church.

Like a master composer, God gifts and arranges every part of the body for the sake of communal flourishing — but pride threatens to destroy this beautiful purpose. The only remedy will be Christ-like love, honor and concern for one another.

Beginning a new section of his ancient letter, Paul now turns his attention to the church's relationship with Holy Spirit of God and His blessing of specific gifts. In this first sermon in a new series, we will lay some groundwork about the Holy Spirit and lay the foundation for a continuing exploration of Life with the Holy Spirit. 

Prayer is a conversation that gets us into God’s reality and invites His reality into us.

The section on The Lord’s Supper in First Corinthians is likely the most referenced but also the most misunderstood and misapplied. The celebration of the Lord's Supper in ancient Corinth revealed major unity glitches in the church family. We will learn from Paul's strong admonition and reestablish a Jesus-centered unity that heals relational gaps of any size or shape. 

As Paul exhorts the Corinthians in the cultural custom of head coverings and hairstyles, we see a divine framework; an equaled order meant to bring us into His blessing.

The conclusion of Paul's directives regarding idols gifts us with ample grace along the complex path of decision making with wisdom. 

So far, Paul has zeroed in on the core of the Gospel: Jesus laying his life down for others. This Sunday, Paul turns the gospel-focus from others to self. Using the story of the Exodus, Paul warns Christians about the dangers of toying with idolatry.

We're called to love your neighbor as yourself. Sometimes it's easier said than done - in fact, it involves sacrifice at times. As we continue in our series, Idols Among Us, Paul teaches us how we can be all things to all people and that we can sacrifice to win more for the Kingdom.

The longings of our heart have expressions, outcomes and consequences that are often unintended - like in the creation of idols. But this is not the only thing Paul has to say in this new section of his letter to the church at Corinth. Come join us as we begin a new series that will engage our idol-factory hearts further into life-changing truths about community, freedom and more. 

As we continue our new series in 1 Corinthians, Idols Among Us, Paul tells the story of how he planted the church in Corinth, and that even our glorious freedoms in Christ are worth sacrificing for our brothers and sisters to receive the Gospel and mature in love. Discover freedom from the idolatry of money by embracing the call to joyful sacrifice and generosity.

As a conclusion to our Beautiful Gift series we will take a look back on the major points of truth and application from previous texts as well as examine the last section of First Corinthians 7. 

Often, we hear “calling” and picture a future version of ourselves. Yet as Paul speaks identity and calling over the Corinthians, we see a beautiful and simple invitation from our Father, unfolding around us right now.

With a tone of positivity and balance, Paul finishes his discussion on marriage by answering specific questions the church had on singleness, divorce, and remarriage.
