Victoria Woodhull would eventually go on to be the first woman to run for president in the United States, but how did she get started? Would you believe if we told you that by the time she ran for president she was already a retired child psychic? Yup, the Spiritual movement of the late 19th century played a huge part in the young presidential hopeful. But, it wasn't all great Vicky. But it was al...

You may think you're boujie, but you don't know boujie until you know Georgiana. In this continuation of her story we learn about the love, loss and addictions of one of the most famous women of her time. It's like... a lot of drama. Full show notes here:  https://queenshistorypodcast.com/georgiana-cavendish-the-duchess-of-devonshire-part-2 Oh! And speaking of the Duchess... we did a review on the...

You may think you're boujie, but you don't know boujie until you know Georgiana. After marrying the most eligible bachelor in the country, the Lady G becomes the Duchess G. But it's not all fashion and parties (though there is a lot of that).  We pair Georgiana with an equally sweet and boozy cocktail called the Darling Duchess.  Find the full show notes here: https://queenshistorypodcast.com/geor...

We are wrapping up our Quarantine Queens series (because apparently this is just our lives now) and we thought we'd honor this series by ending it with a long time listener request. Juana of Castile aka Joanna of Castile (aka Juana la loca) (though we do NOT call her that). Join us for part 2! You’d think by having parents known as the power couple of Europe, dubbed the “Catholic Monarchs” by the Pope himself, that life would be a bit easier for our girl, Juana of Castile. Despite a surprisingly decent upbringing and a powerful mom who had the funds to bankroll Christopher Columbus’ voyage to America, Juana’s seemingly good fortune takes a turn not too long after her marriage to Philip...

To continue our journey into the lives of lesser known queens who suffered some sort of isolation, we bring you Sophia Alekseyevna of Russia. Sophie was daughter and sister to the tsars of Russia. She was the first woman to act as regent in 200 years, but not everything went according to plan.  We pair this episode with a drink called the Black Russian and it is just as strong as Sophia herself! C...

You think your isolation is rough, but Ingeborg of Denmark has you beat. We're picking up where we left off and Hortense is on the run from her controlling husband. And this is where her life of infamy really takes off. Love affairs, ROYAL love affairs, drunken sword fights and more. Hortense may be most famous for being one of the many wives of Charles II of England, but there is so, so much more to her awesome story. A couple of really great articles on Miss Mancini...

Hortense Mancini's life was a wild ride. Born into an incredibly affluent family, she was well connected from the day she was born. This Italian beauty was raised at the French court, along with her beautiful sisters. You could even compare them to another group of beautiful, scandalous sisters from today. Oh, yeah. The Mancini sisters are 100% the original Kardashians. As a young woman, Hortense...

Divorced, beheaded, died. Queen Jane Seymour has entered the Tudor chat. Today we cover the third (and favorite?) wife of Henry VIII of England. Plain Jane is often overlooked and assumed to be a less interesting woman that Henry's other queens. (I mean, really tho. Who looks all that interesting when compared to Catherine of Aragon and Anne Boleyn?) Was she as boring as everyone thinks or just li...

Marie Laveau was the famous New Orleans Voodoo queen, but she's probably not anything like you think! The first person in her family to be born free, she lived in the highly integrated (but still pretty racist) New Orleans society. As a young mother, Marie started doing hair to make a living and, just like in American Horror Story Coven (the only thing that show got right about our girl), she earn...
