Purposeful Parenting

Have you had a day or days when you felt overwhelmed and at the end of your rope with your child?  Are you faced with  trials and difficulties and many are centered around your child?  Harriett refers to this as having "David and Goliath Experiences."  In this episode she tells you how to successfully deal with this experience.

The Love Language of Acts of Service is the last of the 5 Love Languages.  In this episode Harriett tells you two stories.  One story shows you the response of a child whose love language, Acts of Service, is not met.  The other story, taken from the 4 Gospels in the Bible, shows the use of all of the Love Languages: Physical Touch, Words of Affirmation, Quality Time, Gifts, and Acts of Service.

A child whose love language is gifts, sees gifts given to them as expressions of love.  There are dos and don'ts to giving gifts to these children.  What are they?  In this episode, Harriett covers what to do and what not to do if your child's love language is gifts.

Have you ever had "one of those days?  Nothing seems to go right, the kids are running all over the place, the house is a wreck and you need to make an appointment but you can't find a babysitter. You're sinking and there's no life preserver. Harriett has been there, done that.  In this episode she shares how she learned to cope when she had, "one of those days."

Words can hurt children.  The wrong words, the wrong tone and even the wrong body language can scar a child emotionally and shatter his self-image and is especially harmful if the child's Love Language is Words of Affirmation.  In this episode, Harriett discusses healthy ways to communicate with your child using biblical principles.

Words are powerful and can either build up or tear down a child.  If Words of Affirmation is your child's Love Language, the wrong words can be extremely detrimental.  "The way we talk to our child becomes his/her inner voice."  In this episode, Harriett covers things to avoid doing when communicating with your child.
