Even when he was still growing up, Jesus provoked lots of different responses - curiosity, hostility, polite respect. But there were a few who recognized he was God's Deliverer, sent to save his people from their sins - and from these people, he received worship. How will YOU respond to Jesus?

God sent John to prepare the way for Jesus, but even before that, he sent angels to their mothers. When the time came for them to be born, the parents were praising God with humility for his fulfillment of his promises. John pointed the way to Jesus gladly and without resentment; when we see Jesus for who he is, we will want to do the same.

When God was ready to have Jesus begin his time on earth, he sent angels ahead to give word. Some people responded with skepticism, but there responded with faith, even at great risk. When God moves in your life, how will you respond? Will you be ready?

Malachi describes a time when God's people found themselves wondering whether he was done with them, or whether he had more in store for them. The answer was very clear: God is always at work, continuing his work of redeeming and gathering a people. In fact, Malachi was his final prophet before the time of Christ. Are you joining God in his ongoing work?

As we close the book of Nehemiah, we see the end result of all Nehemiah's labors. After many years of pursuing excellence, leaning on God, building on Jerusalem's glorious past, praying through opposition, and caring for the spiritual health of the people, the city of Jerusalem dedicated its walls. Yet in spite of these blessings, they still fell into the same familiar pattern of neglect and forge...

Revival- It is a word that can evoke either positive or negative feelings within people. It is a thing to be desired. Yet, it can only spill out from the church when it happens within the church. Only when we realize we are under a curse, can not try hard enough to free ourselves from it, and only Christ can save us can true revival come.

We've all had the experience of saying something foolish, or having something hurtful said to us. James tells us this is deeper than a simple common human foible - this is us revealing the content of our hearts. Only God can change us from the inside out, and transform our natural language from foolish and selfish into encouraging, wise, wholesome words from above.

James has been addressing his readers about faith - and how our faith, if genuine, will always lead to a changed life. If our faith doesn't make us more like Christ, can it save us? In Chapter 2, he specifically asks - if we show favoritism, are we loving our neighbor? If we have received such mercy from God, can we withhold it from others? In our day, how must we never show favoritism?

Faith in Jesus is often presented as truths to believe and faith to accept. But if that faith doesn't change your life, can it save you? James says true saving faith will change how we speak, what we do, and even how we spend!

Psalm 23 is known in the culture as the psalm of comfort in times of tragedy. Why? Because God is presented as the shepherd of our soul - guiding, leading, feeding, protecting, and caring for us. No matter how deep the valley or how dark the shadow, we have confidence that death and sin don't have the final say. The good shepherd gave his life so that by grace alone, we can dwell with God forever.

David frequently found himself in situations where only God could deliver him. He learned how to be humble before God, call out to him, and rejoice in the Lord's deliverance. Like David, we also face our own challenging circumstances, but none greater than the sinful condition into which we were born. Have you humbly called out to God for deliverance from your greatest affliction of all?

The Laments are the biggest genre of the Psalms. They are honest in showing pain, grief, and hardship. Yet, they do it with hope and awareness that God is still there, even when it seems He is not. The authors refuse to stop trusting and God and show us that no matter what our hardship is, the relief we all need can be found in only Him.

Psalm 1 is all about wisdom - not just making smart decisions in the here and now, but making godly decisions that will matter in eternity. Wisdom starts with the fear of the Lord, but it is completed in Jesus. The cross doesn't appear wise by worldly standards, but God determined, in his own wisdom, that by it we should be saved.
