Podcasting in Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club

It's hard to teach anything during the summer months. These girls are eager to talk about what they learned this summer at Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club Summer Camp.

Summer camp flew by quickly. In the seven weeks of summer camp I had two classes and every group had the chance to be in both photography class and podcasting class. This is their honest opinions of the classes.

One of our session plans for this summer was how to do an interview and how to use that format for a podcast. Group 4 gives it a shot and this is what they came up with.

The young girls saw Michelle Obama on TV giving her speech at the DNC and wanted to talk about it. It is never to early to get involved with your right to VOTE.

We should all take mental health seriously . I sit down with the young men of group 6 to talk openly about mental health. They really open up and share their stories.

4 months of quarantine. I can't believe we all had to go through this. The Covid 19 pandemic effected so many people across the world at the same time. No work, no school, friends and family members getting sick. These young ladies tell us how this effected them.

It's almost back to school for many children in New York City. By now many parents made the choice of blended or just online schooling. We ask a group a young girls what they really think of this new format. If they had a choice this is what they would do in their own words.

As child I had a bike and it was so much fun to ride around. Bikes give kids the freedom to go to many places. These young men talk about bikes and the freedom and joy they get from riding their bikes.

It's such a special moment for someone when they buy a new home. A couple of our members are visiting open houses and in the process of getting a new home for the family. This a real conversation of the joy of moving from an apartment to a house.

In the summer months we are always looking for a place to cool off. Some like the pools. Some like the beach. We decided to have a conversation about the pros and cons of both. 

It's a new era in sports. Are the fans going to watch again. Sports will never be the same without the fans.

It's very rare that we have three staff members at one time in a podcast. This episode is one of those rare moments. We also had Vincent with a Q with us so let the fun begin.

Going to public and state parks in the Bronx is not as easy as it sounds. Some youth do not live near parks or need some transportation to get to these locations. Others have parks near them but do not use them for safety reasons. These are real conversations with 7 year old boys about this topic.

I just had a good conversation about siblings. Some of these boys have a few, and some have none. It's always a fresh view when talking to them. This is group #3 ages range from 8yrs-10yrs old.

I always give all the groups I work with a chance to talk about anything that's on their mind. In this episode young girls of group 2 come up with this topic of BLM. A bit shocking that this is what they are thinking of despite that they are only 7 years old.
