Appointment with Love #13 One minute to six—Lieutenant Blandford’s heart leaped higher than his plane had ever done. A young woman was coming toward him. Her figure was long and slim; her blond hair lay back in curls from her delicate ears. Her eyes were blue as flowers, her lips and chin had a gentle firmness. In her pale green suit, she was like springtime come alive. #14 He started toward her,...

Appointment with Love #10 For 13 months, she had faithfully replied, and more than replied. When his letters did not arrive she wrote anyway, and now he believed he loved her, and she loved him. #11 But she had refused all his pleas to send him her photograph. That seemed rather bad, of course. But she had explained: “If your feeling for me has any reality, any honest basis, what I look like won’t...

Appointment with Love #7 She was wearing a red flower in her suit lapel, but it was a crimson sweet pea, not the little red rose they had agreed upon. Besides, this girl was too young, about 18, whereas Hollis Meynell had frankly told him she was 30. “Well, what of it?” he had answered. “I’m 32.” He was 29. #8 His mind went back to that book—the book the Lord Himself must have put into his hands o...

Appointment with Love #5 Next time you doubt yourself, I want you to hear my voice reciting to you: ‘Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I shall fear no evil, for Thou art with me.’ “ And he had remembered; he had heard her imagined voice, and it had renewed his strength and skill. #6 Now he was going to hear her real voice. Four minutes to six. His face grew sharp. Under...

Appointment with Love #3~4 He placed himself as close as he could to the information booth, just beyond the ring of people besieging the clerks. #4 Lieutenant Blandford remembered one night in particular, the worst of the fighting, when his plane had been caught in the midst of a pack of Zeros. He had seen the grinning face of one of the enemy pilots. -- Hosting provided by SoundOn

Appointment with Love #2 His heart was pounding with a beat that shocked him because he could not control it. In six minutes, he would see the woman, who had filled such a special place in his life for the past 13 months, the woman he had never seen, yet whose written words had been with him, and sustained him unfailingly. -- Hosting provided by SoundOn

Appointment with Love #1 Six minutes to six, said the great round clock over the information booth in the Grand Central Station. The tall young army lieutenant who had just come from the direction of the tracks lifted his sunburned face, and his eyes narrowed to note the exact time. -- Hosting provided by SoundOn

Living Free #8 Never since then have I caught any living creature and put it in a cage. All living creatures have a right to live free. -- Hosting provided by SoundOn

Living Free #7 Arthur Wayne, the renowned bird expert, happened to be visiting my father at the time and hearing me bemoan the fate of my bird, explained what had occurred. "A mother mockingbird, finding her young in a cage, will sometimes bring it poison berries. She deems it better for her young to die than to live in captivity." -- Hosting provided by SoundOn

Living Free #6 The following morning when I went to see what my captive was doing, I discovered it on the floor of the cage, dead. I was baffled! What had happened? I had taken excellent care of my little bird, or so I thought. -- Hosting provided by SoundOn

Living Free #5 I had left the cage out on our back porch. And on the second day of the bird's captivity, my new pet's mother flew to the cage with food in her bill. The baby bird gulped down everything she brought to it. I was pleased to see this. Certainly the mother knew better than I how to feed her offspring. -- Hosting provided by SoundOn

Living Free #4 At first, in its fright at being captured, the bird fluttered about the cage. But eventually it settled down in its new home. I felt very pleased with myself and looked forward to some beautiful singing from my tiny musician. -- Hosting provided by SoundOn

Living Free #3 I decided that I would catch a young bird and keep it in a cage and that way have my own private musician. I finally succeeded in catching one and put it in a cage. -- Hosting provided by SoundOn

"生而自由“＃2 賞析 We lived on the edge of a wood. And every evening at dusk, the mockingbirds would come and perch in the trees and sing. There isn't a musical instrument made by man that can produce a more beautiful sound than the song of the mockingbird. 連音的定義：字與字之間音波並不靜止, 而是將前一字的最後一個子音, 跟下一個字的第一個母音, 形成新的音節; 此舉並不會影響整句話的總音節數. -- Hosti...

Living Free "生而自由“賞析 ＃1 Watching some children trying to catch butterflies one hot August afternoon, I was reminded of an incident in my own childhood. When I was a boy of 12 in South Carolina, something happened to me that cured me forever of wanting to put any wild creature in a cage. -- Hosting provided by SoundOn
