Pinpoint History

After Alexander's stunning victory against Darius at Issus, the Macedonian army moves further south into the Levant, inching slowly toward Egypt. Along the way, the Island city of Tyre puts up stiff resistance as Alexander and the army use some creative engineering to reach the city.

We continue Alexander's conquests as the King marches deeper into Persian territory. Meanwhile, stirrings from the deep unfold as Darius begins a retaliatory campaign in the Aegean Sea and raises an army to defend his empire. The first showdown between Alexander and Darius begins.

In the aftermath of the battle at the Grancius River, Alexander begins his conquest of the Persian Empire, swallowing up Asia Minor. We pause for a portrait and unveil a mysterious plot to kill the King.

Alexander sets off on the Persian Invasion, the dream of his father now realized by the son. However, time is ticking for the Macedonian army as Alexander must force a decisive battle sooner rather than later.

After quelling the revolts in Thrace and Illyria, news spreads into Greece that Alexander has died. This prompted Thebes and Athens to declare freedom from the Macedonian Kingdom. Alexander is forced to return south, intending to force peace on his enemies.

Alexander sets out into the Balkans to deal with uprisings in Thrace and Illyria. This will be his first test as King and commander of the Macedonian army; will Alexander prove to everyone watching that he is a son worthy of his father?

Philip is now dead; Alexander is acclaimed king hours after his father's death. Immediately Alexander begins to deal with threats both domestically and foreign.

We cover Darius and Xerxes' conflicts with the Greeks. After that, we touch briefly on the rest of the Persian monarchs to bring us in line with the narrative which ended with Philip's death in 336 BC

The Great King Cyrus is dead. His sons have inherited their domains and are ruling, but madness ensues and 9 years after the death of Cyrus, a new man Darius sits on the throne. How did it happen and what's the truth?

We gaze east to see the land that Alexander will conquer in the coming years. How did the Persian Empire come about, and what set them on their collision course with the Greek Mainland?

Philip is in control of Greece now, but issues are plaguing Philip on the domestic front. Issues with the local Macedonian aristocracy, Alexander, his wife Olympias, and a jilted lover make 336 BC a busy year for Philip.

In the aftermath of the Battle at Chaeronea, Philip installs a new league in Corinth making himself the leader of the league. Meanwhile, Philip's restless nature leads him to look east to Persia for a new conquest.

Philip marches south to handle yet another Sacred War. Athens finally finds a powerful ally in Thebes to aid them in the war against Macedonia. Philip will face the combined forces of Athens and Thebes for supremacy of Greece.

Philip experiences a turbulent campaigning season in 340 BC, with some highs, but mainly lows.

Philip is at peace with Greece and turns his attention toward Illyria and Thrace. Meanwhile, in Athens, internal politics begin to turn divisive over their peace with Macedonians. While Demosthenes rallies Athenians to embrace war with Philip.

It's time we finally introduce the prodigal son into the narrative!

In 346 BCE, two years after the fall of Olynthus Philip makes his move in Southern Greece after 6 years.

In the intervening years since the events in Thessaly, Philip handles business in his immediate sphere of influence, culminating in another serious annexation of territory.

Philip is drawn into the Sacred War and faces off against the Phocians forces led by Onomarchus.

Central Greece finds itself embroiled in a Sacred War. Thessaly asks Philip for aid in a local power struggle which will draw Philip into the wider war effort.

Philip decides the best defence is a potent offence. The Kingdom of Macedonia pushes to control its regional area completely and plays political mind games, making friends and enemies,

Philip has managed to give himself some breathing room; we'll use that time to look at the diplomatic marriages Philip made throughout his reign and look at the economic situation in Macedonia.

Philip ascends the throne of Macedonia; we see glimpses of Philip's political acumen and charisma as he navigates Macedonia through an unstable time.

We check in with the Macedonians at the birth of Philip and look at his early life. All while seeing the stability of Macedonia erode over the first 23 years of Philip's life.

We begin to chart the rise of Macedonia; we know of Macedonia's most famous export Alexander the Great. What about his father, Philip? We wax poetic about Philip and Alexander and briefly talk about the origins of Macedonia.
