Throughout the Gospels we get some of the clearest depictions of Christology (the understanding of Christ) from Jesus' interactions with demonic sources. As we see from this passage, Jesus is the Son of God and the one with all authority over all of creation.

The story of Jesus calming the storm is found in all three synoptic Gospels and is an important marker of Jesus' divinity. What can we learn from the disciples response to this miracle? Listen and find out!

Jesus has some particularly difficult sayings in the Gospels and one of those is found in Matthew 8:18-22. In this passage, Jesus makes it clear that there is no middle road of half-hearted discipleship. The options are wholehearted following or, ultimately, rejection of Christ.

This is the final week of the historical books of the Old Testament and we end with the kings of Israel. Israel desires and follows a king just like the nations around them and they see the consequences.

In Leviticus 19:2, the people of Israel are commanded to be holy because God is holy. We see Jesus say something similar in Matthew 5:48. As we follow the story of the family of Abraham, we see how that is impossible without action being taken by the Lord Himself and how we still need that extra action today.

There are all sorts of moral commands in the Bible, but they aren't given simply to tell us to be better people or to suck all the fun out of life. We are given those moral commands, not because God is a police officer just looking for the chance to bust us, but rather because God is a loving Father in heaven.

Jesus gives a call that we cannot be indifferent towards.

The Kingdom of Heaven is a major theme throughout Jesus' ministry on earth.

The author of Hebrews states that we have a great high priest who can sympathize with us in our weakness. Matthew 4:1-11 shows how, while Jesus sympathizes with our weakness, he still is shown to be the promised man who would defeat the great serpent from the Garden of Eden.

Jesus not only is called the "beloved son" of God, but he also gives to us that same privilege.

What does genuine repentance look like? Is it just apologizing and moving on or is there something more expected?

So often we can be convinced that if we are Christians that we should never have to face suffering. This comes through in questions like "If God is real, why is there evil in the world?" or "Why me, God?" Matthew 2:13-23 shows us that suffering is unavoidable, even to God himself in the flesh.

So much has been made of trying to be "seeker-sensitive" in churches, but as Matthew 2:1-12 shows us, there are two kinds of seekers of Jesus and if we are not cautious we can be inviting destruction upon our church.
