Suffering happens to everyone. Sometimes suffering chooses you. Sometimes you choose to suffer. One thing we learn from Jesus is that suffering can lead to serving.

As we look at the story of John the Baptist being beheaded, we take a look and see that the church of God is made up of believers as the body with Christ as the head. The world, our sinful flesh, and Satan want to separate us from the head, want to separate us from Christ, because a body without a head cannot function. A body without a head is dead.

Have you noticed that Christians and non-Christians think differently? About a lot of things. And they keep butting heads. God is not tolerant, He is patient. Here is a good question: Do you want God to tolerate you or do you want him to save you?

The buzzword in our culture today is tolerance, but what does that word really mean? If God were merely tolerant then there would be no point in sending His Son Jesus to save the world. God is patient.

As Jesus and the disciples head across the Sea of Galilee, a storm arises and the boat begins to fill with water. Jesus, who is sleeping, is woken up by the disciples who need to be saved. Jesus calls the storm to be still, and the waters become calm. In the storms that we go through in life, we want Jesus in our boat. And as we celebrate Father's Day, we want fathers in our boat as well.

Who we say we are, and who God says we are can sometimes bring very different answers. As we read Paul's second letter to the Corinthians, we find that "if anyone is in Christ he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold the new has come." By faith, because of Christ's death and resurrection, we are in Christ and are new creations.

As Jesus makes His way to Jerusalem riding on a donkey, He is welcomed with shouts of "Hosanna in the highest!" As we take a look at what "Hosanna" means, we will see that it is a fitting cry to Jesus, but not just for the journey of Palm Sunday into the city. The hosannas of the people are more fitting for the journey that Jesus takes to the cross, where He goes to save all people.

Do you fear death? I don't think we would be surprised to find out that many people in the world fear dying. And maybe there would be less to fear about death if we knew what happens after we die. Guess what?!?! We do! As we look at the actions of Christ during Holy Week, death no longer has any sting, any power over those who are in Christ, because Christ has triumphed over death and the grave.

Why did God have to make a new covenant with His people? Because they broke the old one. So God restructures our relationship with Him by making it all about Jesus Christ.

As the serpent was lifted up in the wilderness to save the people of Israel, so the Son of God was lifted up on the cross to save the entire world. While some may think that God is a God of wrath and condemnation, we see through Jesus that God is a God of salvation.
