Who cares for the victims of injustice? Does God care? Does He see what is happening here? These questions challenge the authenticity of our concern. Because of who Jesus is and what He has done, grace has the power to produce peace. Through His death, evil received the judgment it deserves, and through His resurrection, we can rise again from that judgment. Disaster has a way of knocking the collective breath out of us. The effort to rebuild will therefore require a new spirit. God’s people were given the chance to start again, to rebuild a temple that their enemies had destroyed. Few, however, had the heart to re-engage in the work.
