Former Bulldog assistant coaches Lane Burroughs and Butch Thompson share recruiting stories of Bulldog greats, and share behind-the-scenes memories on helping create a successful decade of Mississippi State baseball.

Before Butch Thompson became head coach at Auburn and Lane Burroughs became head coach at Louisiana Tech, they were assistant coaches in their home state. Thompson, from Amory, and Burroughs, from Meridian, hit the road recruiting and began putting together signing classes that led Mississippi State into a run as one of the nation's elite programs of the past decade.

Pat McMahon spent many years in Starkville as an assistant coach before becoming head coach for Mississippi State. He led the Bulldogs to the College World Series in his first season and took State to Super Regionals in 2000 and 2001. Jeffrey Rea was a four year starter at Mississippi State and was a fixture as the leadoff man in the Bulldog lineup. One of the all-time great hitters at Mississippi State, Rea climbed the hit chart and held the record for most career hits as a Bulldog, until last season.
