A confident person can be engaging. However, a person falsely confident in themselves can be obnoxious. Jesus teaches us a heavenly definition of greatness that goes against our earthly experience. Greatness in the eyes of God comes in the form of humble service. There is no greater example of this than Jesus Christ Himself. Let’s strive to live our lives exemplifying heavenly greatness!

A "forked tongue" is despised for its duplicity. James tells of the tragedy when Christians use a forked tongue to both bless and curse. We are all guilty, often saying words we didn't intend (Romans 7). So where do we go? To the one whose tongue was never twisted, Christ Jesus. His voice restores life where a forked tongue once only brought strife. Let’s turn to Him today!

Today we celebrate our first baptism at OSSH. What is baptism? Martin Luther writes, “Baptism is not just plain water, but it is the water included in God’s command and combined with God’s word.” This baptism “works forgiveness of sins, rescues from death and the devil, and gives eternal salvation to all who believe this, as the words and promises of God declare.”

Our role model for this is Christ himself (Phil 2:5-8), who teaches us that “Christian Community Requires Christ-Like Humility”. Let’s live out this example today!

We begin a new sermon series entitled “We > ME”, in which we will explore how, according to our creator, it is not good for us to exist alone. His solution to such isolation is community. As God’s people, we are called by Him to live in a unique and eternal community, the Church, where we can daily pray, praise, and give Him thanks!

When all hope seems lost, when all of our calling seems to fall on deaf ears, we can still strive to recall upon the Lord, remembering His faithfulness and unending love.

It can be difficult to express gratitude.  This can lead to striving for that perfect expression, or the genesis of an ungrateful heart.  Both of these paths are unhealthy.  Psalm 100 serves as a guide to giving thanks.  In it, we learn that worship is a joyful noise to God and the path that results in a healthy life and a proper understanding of God.

Even though we find ourselves walking in the valleys of darkness, God promises we do not walk alone, and that we will be led through them to His eternal feast of overflowing blessing. God promises to be with us through all the days of our lives, and we can take comfort now in knowing that we will be with him forever.

When was the last time you let someone else drive your car? We love control (or at least the allusion of it!) Yet, so often, we discover that our ways don't always work out for the best. Instead, let's strive to relinquish control to the one who is worthy of following, our redeeming God!

What do we do when our plans don't align with God's? It can be easy to attempt to take things into our own hands, grow resentful towards God, or even live in defeat. However, if we are willing to submit and trust, we will witness that God's sight is 20/20!

Sometimes it may seem like God is not providing for us at all. We often wish that He would make our problems disappear with a snap of His fingers. In today's example of Boaz, we see that God often chooses to provide for us through the faithfulness of His people. Let's strive to recognize and appreciate our faithful God's provision.

Many love stories exist in the world. Some are selfish, some are selfless, and some even last for a generation. Only a few have the potential to change the world forever. Today, we are launching a new series exploring God’s redemptive love. Let’s embark on a journey together to better understand our Savior and His great love for us!
