One-Word Check-In

Jesus says in John 10:11-18 that he is the good shepherd who sacrifices himself if necessary. His sacrificial love is what makes him good.

In the gospel of Luke's telling of Jesus' appearance to the disciples, Jesus opened their minds to understand the scriptures. Even though they had read them and knew them by heart, they still needed Jesus to open their minds to understand them.

The first words the Resurrected Jesus says to the disciples are "Peace be with you." Jesus brings them peace. When has Christ brought you peace?

The angel tells the women that they are looking for Jesus, when they find the tomb empty. Are you looking for Jesus?

Jesus said, "Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up." He was referring to the temple that had become a marketplace, and his body as the temple after resurrection. What do you need to destroy in order for resurrection to occur?

What does the word "reconcile" mean to you? Consider what it means to reconcile with God, with others, and within ourselves.

Jesus transfigures or transforms before Peter, James, and John during a mountaintop experience. He revealed God's dazzling light when his spiritual, divine self shines through his physical body. When has Jesus revealed his light to you?

Jesus heals Simon's mother-in-law in his home, a private place. Jesus comes to us in our homes, in our private places, and brings healing and restoration.

Jesus revealed a new teaching -- his authority -- in the synagogue. The people gathered to pray and study scripture, but little did they know, that the Holy One of God would be the One teaching them.

Jesus goes to the shore to call four fishers to follow him. They respond by dropping their nets and leaving their boat. Would we drop everything to follow Jesus?

Just as Moses reminds the Israelites to thank God for bringing them into a good land, let us remember to thank God for our blessings and the goodness in our lives during this Thanksgiving week.

Jesus continues to teach what the kingdom of God is like in this Parable of the Talents, found in Matthew 25:14-30. We have been taught that this parable is about money, but how does this teach us about the kingdom of God?
