Once Upon A Time In The Muirton
Once Upon A Time In The Muirton
Everybody has a story to tell. Once Upon A Time In The Muirton is a collection of memories gathered and told by the people of Muirton in their own voice and in their own style. These podcasts capture the oral history, spoken by the people who lived, worked, played, laughed and cried in a 20th century housing scheme. Inevitably, memories being what they are, mean occasional mistakes on names, dates and locations will be made. But every story told is done with the best intentions

Welcome to Once Upon A Time In The Muirton. Recently we had the pleasure of sitting with 3 Auld Muirton Bairns - Lizzie Lamond, Gooey Mcgrath and Jimmy Duncan (Dunk's big brother). Before we knew it 4 hours had passed and it was time to go. We have edited this episode to a little more than 2 hours - it could have been more :-) and we hope however you choose to listen, you get to hear the whole epi...
Episode 8 - Farewell 2021 - A Banksy Poem, Some Beer, Wine and Toast 24.12.2021 9:47
This is our last, very short, episode of 2021. It starts with a Christmas poem by Gordon Banks and then goes downhill from there :-) We had great plans for a big finale to the year but beer led to wine led to toast. We have had an absolute ball being given the privilege spending time with so many fantastic people who let us into their home. Sharing their personal stories of time living in Mu...

Opened in 1908, 1000's of children have walked through the school gates in the last 113 years. Like many schools of the 20th...

Episode 1 - Jumpers For Goalposts 25.06.2021 1:05:19
As we are in the middle of the Euros football tournament, Barney and I thought we should do a short episode on football in the Muirton. We made reference in the first episode that football was a big part of our lives growing up playing in the streets and back greens of Muirton. I invited two old friends, John McLaren and Steve Banks, to come and have a chat with me about their memories...
