During this time of year, most of us begin to reflect on the importance of family and friends. We think about those we’ve lost and the blessings for those of us who are still alive. I am concerned about the future of our children. Instead of fire drills at school, they are now learning drills on how to save themselves from active student shooters inside their respective schools. They have to keep their senses up for unexpected attacks while playing outdoors. As a lifetime community organizer, I am concerned about their safety. What are your thoughts?

I took a break from recording to assess if there is truly an old school family. During the break, I assessed families, conversations, and television to reach a conclusion. The conclusion I reached is that there is an Old School Family that I feel I can explain or describe.

I returned to Frank Chester Recreation Center to keep my promise to Lester Williams and the young men who wanted to participate in an interview. What I heard is not what I expected - not because of lack of intelligence, but transparency and wisdom. I was reminded of the stereotypes of being young that developed my defenses today.
