Old School Thoughts

This episode examines why I speak of Old School. It is intended to cause one to remember how relationships were built and maintained.

This episode is all about children being children. How did interact with the little boys and girls in your neighborhood, school, and classrooms? Do you remember the love licks, the denials, your first kiss, your girlfriends and boyfriends? What was the best line you have ever used or heard (other than mine)?

This episode has to do with exercising your Individual freedom to design your style of fashion without the pressure of wearing name brands. We wore what we had and kept them clean, ironed, and or starched.

Old School was a period that validated Blacks/African Americans as a race and ethnic group; it signified us as a culture; and United us as a people in search for human and civil rights. As we fought for civil rights - we failed to openly state human rights which was at the core of Black Lives Matter. Old School is a history and a generation that lived at the crossroads of the past and the future.

House parties were the Facebook and Instagram of our time because they provided an environment for socializing to include dancing and dating. The black community was at its closest relationship during that generation. Roll back the rug and move all those tables and chairs.

This is another “I remember when” episode that is focused on how close families, neighborhoods, communities, and people (in general) were during Christmas holidays.

This episode provides some insight into how I viewed the church as a young child. I remember going to Sunday school before service and saving some of the money my parents gave me for offerings to spend at the church at the corner of the block. It was all good.

What role did Old School Music play in your life? You could tell a story, protest, or lay on some deep lines to your girlfriend or boyfriend from lyrics taken from Old School Songs. Let’s get married today - might as well. I don’t want nobody to give me nothing. Just open up the door - I’ll get it myself.

This episode gives a brief history and description of how we fought as little boys. We fought and lived to see another day.

This episode reflects on growing up old school and living to understand the era of my parents.

This episode of Old School Thoughts recounts the good times we had trick or treating when times were safe for children to roam from neighborhood to neighborhood. What costumes did you wear? Can you name some of the treats you would receive and trade with your family and friends?

This episode explores the impact of television, radio, and telephone during the 60’s. I believe those three forms of communication played a big role in extending our childhood and innocence in the absence of parents. I would love to hear from you and know your “Old School Thoughts.”
