The Passover meal retells the story of God delivering Israel from Egypt. It finds its fulfilment in the death of Jesus and we now celebrate Christ our Passover sacrifice through the Lord's Supper.

The plagues of Egypt are an intense picture of God's judgement against evil. As such, they point toward the fullness of God's judgement unleashed at the cross.

 Moses had misunderstood his role thinking he had to convince Pharaoh, and Israel. But God's plans were not dependent on Moses' abilities as a speaker. Moses' role was to be a faithful witness to the one true God.

When we are struggling, we question why. But rather than answering that question, God invites us to place our suffering within the context of his larger redemptive story.

 God shows us signs of his grace and power all the time, just not always in the ways we expect. By becoming aware of God's presence in the commonplace things of life we can learn to see the glory in the ordinary.

When God spoke his name to Moses he revealed something essential about who he is and how he relates to us. 

Moses was a foreigner in Midian, feeling like his life was going nowhere. This part of his story is a reminder that even when we feel lost or helpless, God is at work in our lives.

The story of Moses' birth is a story of God using human weakness to accomplish redemptive purposes. He continues to use our weaknesses to reveal his grace today.

God's absence is strongly felt in the opening chapter of Exodus, but the trajectory of the book is a movement from God's absence to presence. This journey points toward Jesus as the abiding presence of God with us.

The Exodus story is a foundational narrative in the Bible, not only for understanding the Old Testament, but also as a backdrop to the person and work of Jesus and the future new creation he will bring about. 

The events of Jesus’ death and resurrection reveal Jesus to have a unique identity and a unique role in human history.

Paul’s exposition of Jesus’ teaching in Matt 5:39-48, an ethic which calls us to respond to maltreatment with love, goodness, peace, service, and hospitality while letting God be God. Such an ethic has changed the world and will change this nation if we heed the call. 

 In a culture often hostile to the gospel and dismissive of the Christian message, how can the church express genuine agape to the world? In this message, from Romans 12:14-16, we look at loving those beyond the church through practices of blessing and humility.

In this message we continue looking at the dimensions of love in Romans 12—how agape expresses itself in the midst of allfiction, through prayer, serving and hospitality.

 Our cultural familiarity with the word ‘love’ blinds us to its radically counter-cultural and revolutionary meaning. The church is called to embody a distinct and unique form of love patterned after Jesus himself, a love called agape in which self is set aside for the sake of others.

The image of the church as human body reveals the church to be a radically different kind of community than the society we live within.

We tend to associate worship with church music, but this passage gives us a comprehensive and holistic view of worship that encompasses the totality of our being and intersects every moment of our lives.

The church is a mess, but it’s a mess that Jesus loves, a mess for which he died. Let’s give up our idealised picture of what we think the church should be and embrace the broken but grace-filled community called the Church.
