This is a podcast of Ohio Yearly Meeting. We are a collection of Conservative Quaker Meetings based primarily in Ohio. By conservative, we do not mean politically conservative. Conservative Friends are known for their commitment to conserve the Original message of the first generation of Quakers. These Quakers, in turn, saw their movement as a revival of primitive Christianity. We hope the installments of our podcasts will present the understandings of Conservative Quakerism. So, if thee is interested in learning the differences between Conservative Quakers and other Quakers, or would like to...

Fundamental Beliefs of Conservative Friends #24 Sacrifice 29.12.2022

Understanding the nuances of a language becomes essential when translating the Bible from the original Greek into another language.            What do we mean by sacrifice? What gets in the way is a modern, North American lack of understanding of the meaning of true sacrifice as portrayed in the Holy Scriptures. The concept of making our lives a living sacrifice is very difficult for most American...

Conservative Friends Bible Study of Mark #26 Mark Chapter 14:22-52 17.11.2022

The podcast begins with a quick review of some of the difficulties in understanding caused by the changes in the meanings from 1600s English to today’s English. There are some mistranslations in our Bibles of those 1600s words (especially of the 1600s words “slave” and “servant”) into today’s English.                 Henry compares the description of the “last supper” in Mark 14 with 1 Corinthians...

Conservative Friends Bible Study of Mark #25 Mark Chapter 14 Verse 12 - 16 03.11.2022

In the beginning of Mark, Jesus chooses His disciples. This was unusual. Usually in ancient Israel a student would choose one’s teacher. Jesus underscores this variance in John 16:15, “You have not chosen me, but I have chosen you.”              An extended discussion ensues over Jesus’ disciples calling Him “master” or “lord” (Greek: kyrios), The far deeper Greek meaning of “kyrios” is of one who...

Conservative Friends Bible Study of Mark #24 Mark Chapter 13 Verse 28 - Chapter 14 Verse 11 20.10.2022

Mark 13:28-31 includes the parable of the fig tree. To the ancient Israelites, the fig tree could also be understood as a symbol for the nation of Israel. In ancient Hebrew, the expression “heaven and earth will pass away” was understood to mean that everything in the entire Universe would be gone. However, the plural form, “heavens” refers to the place Heaven. Often, early Friends saw the events...

Starting with this episode we begin a new series.  How closely do our lives mirror the life of Christ?
