When we reach our limit and can’t muster the strength to change, society tells us that we don’t need to change. But Jesus has a different way. That moment when you can’t find your way forward when there’s no way out, Jesus steps in. And that’s good news!

We often read about the wilderness as a place of encounter with God, as we see for both Elijah and Jesus. That place of solitude can serve as an invitation for us to seek out similar experiences during the Lenten season. We can use this time for reflection, transformation, and personal growth as we intentionally make space to connect with God, even during life's challenges and struggles.

What do we do when we face emotional pain? We know how to diagnose a cold or a broken arm, but the pain in our souls is internal and harder to pinpoint. The ambiguity can leave us feeling hopeless and lost. However, God's plan is to give this pain a purpose and that we would find healing through serving others. The miracle is that God can turn one's pain around and use it for good.

Anxiety is a severe issue today, a struggle most people face to some degree. Often we question whether we can turn to God when we worry, assuming He will reprimand us for not measuring up. Through the story of Elijah, we see that God doesn’t condemn us or leave us in our anxiety; instead, He invites us to trust Him to walk through it with us.

On June 30th, 2013, Brendan McDonough, a firefighter in an elite squad called the Granite Mountain Hotshots, lost 19 of his brothers fighting a wildfire in Yarnell, Arizona. This tragedy led him back to addiction, depression, and PTSD. Brendan opens up about his journey of struggle and hope as he found community and faith that would powerfully restore his life.

The most important aspect of your life is your inner well-being. Jesus died to redeem all of creation, including your mental health. The good news is that you don't have to be strong or put together. As the church, we want to be people who know it's ok to ask for help and to be help to others.

God's love is unconditional. That means there's nothing we can do to earn His love and nothing we can do to lose it. Through the story of the Prodigal Son, Jesus illustrates God's love for us that is never out of reach. The question is, will we say yes to the love God extends to us?
