The "Point Man" in the military is a soldier who walks at the front of an infantry patrol in combat seeking the right path and leading the team. Today, we need “Point Man” fathering to meet the challenges of our world in the lives of our families.

The story today is about a crippled man named Mephibosheth. This is a story about friendship, promises, grace, love, compassion, forgiveness, and hope. Most of all it is a story about God’s seeking the wounded and crippled for restoration.

The passing of a loved one is always a traumatic experience. How can we properly respond to our own personal losses and display the kind of faith that Paul speaks of in this passage? Hope in God’s promises are our strength and stay.

Taking a look at the heroes of the faith and those who came before us who sacrificed on our behalf.

Proverbs seems to be speaking primarily to the youth of every generation. Solomon actually wrote it for his son. At the same time, the voice of wisdom is reminding those who are more mature in her audience to remember her instruction because we are still on a journey. The writer of Proverbs calls out to all who will hear to seek the beauty, prosperity and peace of wisdom.

On this Mother’s Day we have been challenged to consider helping the mother’s in our state who suffer the agony of watching their children go to bed hungry. The Baptist General Convention of Texas works with statewide and local entities to provide daily bread for all families. The call of the day is “Honor your mother…” Every mother deserves a day and every child deserves a meal.

It is said by some that each generation must discover God for themselves. And yet, we only know God by His revelation of Himself in relationship with man. If every generation had to start from zero, our knowledge of God would be greatly limited. God has overcome this by requiring that each generation pass their accumulated knowledge on to the next generation.

Is this message we join two followers of Christ at their lowest point in life. Their expectations, their hopes, their dreams, had been crushed before their very eyes. They surely felt their lives were over and they would never recover from the events they had witnessed just three days prior at the crucifixion of the Master. Doubts filled their minds and they faced a crisis of faith.

The work of Christ for our redemption is the greatest work ever done by or for man. This passage provides excellent insight into the work of a Savior.

Our world is filled with complainers. In every area of our lives where we are affected by the actions of another there are those who cannot be made happy. For the Christian, complaining is personally destructive, spiritually debilitating and only serves to make our witness to the world more difficult.

Every individual will, at some time, face discouragement. One of Satan’s greatest tools in stopping the work of the God in a church or a believer is not envy, jealousy, hate, or greed. It is discouragement!

The New Testament records at least seven healings of the blind, by Jesus. It is interesting to watch the various actions of Jesus healing these blind men. In our text today, this man is touched three times by Jesus to bring about a gradual rather than instantaneous healing. There are lessons to be learned from the crowd, the Lord and the blind man.

After weeks on this topic it seems odd to say that we now come to the watershed of forgiveness. Will we let our pain hang on to our hearts or will we use the miracle of forgiving to heal the hurt we didn't deserve?

Misconceptions about forgiveness block the wonderful resource God has given for us to experience strong relationships. We continue to learn about God’s Second Greatest Gift.

The hesitation to forgive often stems from an improper perception of what forgiveness really is and how it affects the relationships with the one being forgiven. Getting a proper understanding can assist us to properly deal with our pain and to know the power we maintain in forgiving.

Peter faces a dilemma. His spirit is telling him one thing but his emotions are saying something totally different. His question to Jesus results in a lesson that none of us can forget if we desire to know the freedom of forgiveness in our own lives.

What do you do when you are the victim of wrong or hurt another by your actions or words? Jesus says that those who have been sinned against must forgive. So, how do I forgive and still deal with my hurt, especially when they continue to hurt me? Learn the power of forgiveness.

What do you do when you are the victim of sin? Because the truth is, we all sin and we’re all sinned against. Jesus says that those who have been sinned against must forgive. You can’t say, “God, I want you to forgive me, but I refuse to forgive them.” So, how do forgive and still deal with my hurt, especially when they continue to hurt me? Learn the power of forgiveness.

The church budget may seem like an unlikely place to search for God. However, we need to be reminded that the church is His plan for reaching His people. As we consider the plans He has for us for this year, may we rediscover the miraculous nature of His provision.

Today we affirm our belief that human life is of inestimable worth and significance in all its dimensions, including the unborn, the aged, the widowed, the mentally handicapped, the unattractive, the physically challenged and every other condition in which humanness is expressed from conception to the grave. We believe life is sacred.
