Learning to seek after Christ.

It seems that all we have of deep value has been bathed in blood. Our freedoms especially, both spiritual and national, carry the stain of sacrifice. On Memorial Day we pause to remember. Remember in such a way that we don't just give a polite nod to the past, but acknowledge with gratitude the sacrifices of others.

A special message on the importance of proper expectations.

Then Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit to Galilee, and news of Him went out through all the surrounding region. And He taught in their synagogues, being glorified by all.

When we are forced to our knees it is reasonable to reach out for God. But is faith a grace gift provided only for times of desperation or is there a larger purpose of faith in our lives as believers? Faith is more than an antidote for fear or worry. It is the source of our hope, peace, direction and salvation.

The way we come to know God is through the exercise of faith. The way we develop our spiritual strength and knowledge of God is the same. The way we began is the way we continue. God is not pleased with religion in place of faith. How can we fortify our faith?

Viewing the life of Christ some see only the cradle and the cross as important. The beginning and the end are so vitally important but there is certainly much more. Following the footsteps of Jesus we discover the full purpose of His life. How should this compare with our Christian experience?

The beginning of a trial often brings trauma and the end may bring relief. It’s the middle of the trial that brings the test. How do we handle waiting? God points us to prayer over worry in Psalm 27.

The wandering spirit is a part of human nature. We all have at some time wanted to run away. If we could just be free to do what we want and not have to answer to anyone we feel we would be free. It may be because we are just tired of the demands of life and relationship issues. But just like in the prodigal story the forgiveness of the Father is extended to all who are longing for home.

Today is Palm Sunday, the day we celebrate the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, one week before His resurrection. Jesus, the King of Kings, rode into Jerusalem on a donkey that someone was willing to hand over to Him. What do you have that you can offer your King?

The church is the body of Christ, of which He is the head. It is where we have opportunity to express our worship and exercise the gifts of the Spirit the Lord has given us.

Far too many believers have lost their way in realizing the freedom and joy that Christ came to bring. They are bound by laws, traditions, doctrines and guilt. As we come to the close of the series on Authentic Christianity we now turn to the key to living in freedom.

These verses conclude the list of statements that delineate the Christian's character. Jesus forecasts the perilous path “little Christ” or “Christian.”

Considering the presence of conflict in our world, the need for peacemakers should be obvious. Jesus’ call to be a peacemaker is a call to see ourselves as agents of reconciliation. Today we consider the implications of Jesus' statement in order to understand how we can be effective peacemakers.

We might be able to fool people by pretending to be something we are not, but God is not fooled. It is clear that God looks past outward behavior and outward appearance to the real issue - the condition of our hearts.

We live in a world where it's so easy to become calloused and indifferent. All around are those who are unconcerned about others and quick to condemn or judge those who fail them. The righteousness of God changes a heart to one of mercy.

Step three in the stairway of Christian Character is a new attitude resulting from being humbled and broken which exudes patience and power and a full experience of life’s benefits.

God's people are meant to impact the society in which they live.
