The Church of the Lord Jesus Christ is the most visible expression God’s eternal purpose for mankind. The foundational principles of the early Church illustrate how they were able to impact the world around them and turn it upside down.

The text at which we are looking today is a good text with which to live as we begin this New Year. This background of God’s intervening in history and doing a “new thing” leads us to look at two very different approaches to life—“If Only” vs. “Regardless.”

Worship fully and discover that Jesus is Hope. Spend Less and discover that Jesus is Peace. Give More and discover that Jesus is Joy. Today we come to the fourth action to help us fully celebrate the coming of Christ which is to Love All. Yet, human love is incapable of such a task. Our discussion today shares how Agape love can flow through us to the world.

Joy is a Fruit of the Spirit that comes with accepting God’s gift of Jesus. Real Joy comes when we share the greatest gift we could ever receive in Him.

The Wise Men who came to see Jesus began a tradition of giving gifts to those we love. The problem, however, is that the gift giving has overwhelmed many families creating chaos in place of peace.

The shepherds that watched over their flocks by night in the biblical account of Jesus’ birth were not men who were revered or esteemed highly by the society in which they lived. However, it is through their involvement in the birth of Christ that we can understand the hope that Jesus brought into the world the night He was born.

It is quite obvious that the circumstances of our world today offer opportunity for individuals to have conversations about how difficult things are. For the Christian, complaining is personally destructive, spiritually debilitating and only serves to make our witness to the world more difficult.

Contentment is not found in your circumstances or your possessions. Truthfully, contentment is a learned behavior that is developed over time as we are strengthened by Christ.

Too many Christians and churches have lost contact with the Spirit. Through prayer, the Holy Spirit is what connects us to a Holy God so that we can know Him and experience all He has for us.

Change is not easy but treating it as the enemy does not help. Change is a natural state of being. By focusing on what we can control, we are free to praise God; if not for our circumstances, then in spite of them.

Change is a part of life and we have the choice of fighting it or accepting it. It is often the path to God’s blessing. We avoid it at all costs because we are comfortable, yet without it, we cannot get to all that God has planned for us. We want the benefits of change without the sacrifice and work. While God desires to minister personally to His children, His children must learn how to receive ministry direct from the Lord. These are difficult days in our country. Anger and violence over issues of race and injustice have reached high levels of intensity. Our nation is deeply divided over issues of life, marriage, gender and increasingly over death as well.
