We talked to Delilah and  Georgia from Bishop McCort and SADD Advisor Mrs. Newcomer. They talked about getting involved with SADD. Bishop McCort brings in multiple speakers throughout the year to bring home the message of a safe prom night. 

A new documentary film about the history of Blair County premiere this week at the Mishler Theater .  The 90-minute film is presented by the Blair County Historical Society and features interviews with local historians, reenactments, and more. We talked to the director Mark Frederick about the project.

Caleb Miller wrote a poem a couple years back. He then looked to turn it into his first book. Looking for someone to illustrate, he would eventually find Merrik Bronzini, another local talent. Together, they work on To House A Mouse ! We talked to the duo about their project. 

We talked to Riley and Sara from Bishop Guilfoyle for our Buzz Free program.  They told us why they decided to join SADD and about the other programs at their school that also play a big role in helping the community. 

National Drug and Alcohol Facts Week was March 18th through the 24th. Around that event,  Nichole Rousell, Cambria County Drug Coalition Project Coordinator, went directly to area school during their lunch period to educate area kids on drugs and alcohol.  We talked to her about what she discovered during these meetings. 

 We spoke to Megan Schultz from Victim Services . She talked to us about how she survived her childhood abuse and the relationship it gave her with drugs and alcohol.  Ms. Schultz has some great advice on how to stay safe. 

We talked to Taylor Ecker , a survivor advocate from Pennsylvania that’s currently traveling the country, photographing for the National Parks Service.   We talked to her while she was in Colorado.   She talked about her story of family abuse and the mental health and addiction issues that came out of the experience.    She also tells us what she has found now to help her cope.   

*** The following story details abuse, sexuality, addiction, and religion*** We got a chance to talk to Mary. Mary is an abuse survivor who now works helping others with their trauma to get justice.  She told us about her abuse and sexuality and how it led her to addiction with drugs and alcohol.  Recovered now, Mary found the community in recovery that she did not have in her youth. 

We talked to two members of the staff at Hollidayburg School District - SADD Advisor Mrs. Garman and one of the school's mental health workers, Mrs. Hershey.   They talked about the importance of working on the student's mental health.  Two student members of SADD, Addison and Benjamin, talked about the their friends and the message of SADD. 

For Buzz Free time, we talked to Emma, Austin, Henry, and Evan from Richland High School.  All four are members of Richland's SADD club and a host of other clubs at the school.  Each club has a focus on the students doing their part in their local community in a variety of ways. 

An independent movie filmed last year in Altoona   has gone on to be featured in several film festivals.  Steve Shaffer wrote a play titled “Judgment” in the 90s.  Now, he has adapted the play into a new short film, “ Appealing: A dark comedy about a serious subject ” The cast includes members of the Altoona Community Theater.  We talked to Mr. Shaffer about his movie in today’s PopCast!

Lori had a nice morning before work today.  She woke up, took her dog for a walk, and everything was fine.  Until her dog made a friend with a skunk!!
