Athletes sacrifice to win games, championships, which is the goal of sports. As Christians the goal is to be a saint, to get to heaven. To get there we are going to have to make sacrifices. Giving something up for Lent trains our will to make small sacrifices so that our will is more ready to make big sacrifices.
