Musical Shenanigans
Musical Shenanigans is a podcast about Rolling Stone’s ranking of the Top 500 Albums of All Time. But it is absolutely not what you think. Yes, we talk about the albums. But we do things a little differently around here. We choose two albums at random, put them in a cage together, and let them fight it out to determine which one is better. Each match is part of a March Madness-style Playoff Bracket, with the goal of determining, for ourselves, the best album of all time, based on our limited knowledge, lack of credibility, and non-existent credentials. We also discuss current music-related ne...

Slamming Doors 20.06.2022 1:02:25
The wildcard rounds continue, and we may have discovered a new format going forward. It was said that the episode would release last Monday, but that did not come to fruition. So, as we like to say around here, when we are not right, we are wrong. Thanks again for coming out and here are the matchups! Peace, Love, and Coffee, Dave, Scott, and Cory The Writing's on the Wall - Destiny's C...
The Bridge 04.06.2022 47:08
Here is the part two of our True Crime show that you have been anticipating for all of three days! That slacker editor finally had the whip come down and the people have spoken! They want more! They more of something other than this podcast, but they want more, nonetheless. Here are the matchups in this show. Bob Dylan - Highway 61 Revisited Al Green - Greatest Hits Kanye West - Late Registrati...
The True Crime Podcast 01.06.2022 55:30
Greetings folks, it's your eighth favorite podcast back again for another swing inside the first round of our wildcard series. As per the usual, we would like to thank you all for your continued support of coming back to hear our shenanigans. We joke in the show that this would come out in June and here it is coming out in June - maybe we're psychic? Maybe we play the oboe? All blather...
Wildcard Extravaganza, Part 2: Electric Boogaloo 23.05.2022 59:58
Welcome back to the podcast with your bottom three favorite hosts, one of which is a slacker in getting these shows out on a consistent basis. Four more rounds continue from the last show, including a discussion on the inductees of the 2022 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Round 1 Bob Dylan & The Band - The Basement Tapes AC/DC - Back in Black Round 2 The Beatles - Meet the Beatles Run-DMC - Raisi...
Wildcard Extravaganza 03.05.2022 55:48
Hey folks, your favorite slacker here! After the long hiatus, I figured it was only fair to drop you something at a speedier pace - and mostly because I had to cut it in half to make it fit (The Milton Berle Method). This is the long-awaited preview into Round Two and what it will look like - you have to listen for an explanation. In this show, we're bringing back some old favorites and makin...
The Ironic Sessions 29.04.2022 1:04:23
Welcome back folks and tremendous apologies for my tardiness. As it happens, the bell rang before I got here, and that is why I am late. On this show, Depeche Mode's Violator takes on the first Elvis Presley album, and then Alanis Morrisette takes on the fabulous fogeys of Sunny California - Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young. As always, we appreciate your patronage and would love your feedback...
Technical Difficulties 08.04.2022 57:43
Greetings all, we are off our usual timeline for releases. But the best consistency in the world is consistent inconsistency. This show was fraught with real technical difficulties and in post-production about three hours of work was lost. This could have been called "The Show That Almost Wasn't" - but it was ruled out in committee. On this show, the matchups are as follows: Roun...
Dinner Theater 21.03.2022 58:09
Greetings to all and welcome back - or welcome aboard! We want to thank you all for your patronage. Stick around for an overly theatrical centerpiece (this is the part that occurs between the rounds, and the name we are giving it - all rights reserved, patent pending). Follow us on Twitter @m_shenanigan and be sure to like and subscribe the podcast. Peace, Love, and Coffee, Scott, Dave, and Cory...
At Filmore Correctional 07.03.2022 1:00:46
We are back again Much to your chagrin With more Musical Shenanigans (If you liked that, inquire within about this chap we know from Nantucket.) This time around we have some amusing matchups and another fun-loaded episode you surely do not want to miss. God Save The Queen 21.02.2022 1:02:40
Hello folks and welcome to another episode. As always, we appreciate all our listeners and truly hope that you are enjoying the show as much as we do making them. Now that the pleasantries are out of the way, here are the albums discussed in this episode. The Hunt for White Stratoliner 07.02.2022 1:02:11
Greeting to all of our wonderful fans (both of you). We have returned with a better sound. If you heard the last show, we apologize for the technical difficulties and will be re-releasing it again soon - with a special message from an unknown celebrity, and bonus material that may have been cut the first time. Note, as we are now utilizing a new software for editing, there will be some minor glit...
Podcasting in the Name of... 24.01.2022 1:11:27
Welcome to Season 2! Apologies ahead of time that the recording is a little wonky - there was much suffering with Audacity over the past few weeks, and another software is currently being evaluated. We have updated our description and the segment between the rounds is now known as the centerpiece. So, when you are talking to your coworkers at the virtual Water Cooler over Zoom, you will be cool,...
The Season Finale! 30.12.2021 52:40
**REMASTERED** Here is the last show of the year and last show of season one. Why? Why not? On this show we bring in a guest, because we know you are tired of hearing just the three of us, so we figured another voice would be nice. And yes, we did record the holiday episode after this recording and then release it before this one, so if it feels a little out of sync with the world to you, you d...
The 2021 Holiday Special 23.12.2021 52:08
Recently, it was shared with us, "you know, you guys are awesome, and you know what else is awesome? Star Wars!" And what does Star Wars have that we don't? That's right! A Holiday Special, especially one as spectacular as theirs - filled with song, mirth, weird religions, and embracing the true meaning of the holidays. We gave the folks over at Rolling Stone a break for the...
Tony Soprano Approved 15.11.2021 48:03
Hey folks! Sorry for the long hiatus. We will not quarrel over which party missed the other more, but let's just presume it was you and you can take that apology to the bank for one of their nice decorative pens (bring clippers). Remember how we said there would be a Halloween special - well, that didn't happen. However, in the spirit of The Bad News Bears, we'll do our best to ki...
Podcast Under Siege 11.10.2021 52:17
For those you that suffer from triskaidekaphobia - you can stop here, and you can thank us via Twitter or on our next episode. Speaking of episodes, this one is late. Sure, we did not officially say that we would release the hounds every two weeks, and have done our best to get you a show every two weeks, but the time leading up to last Monday was not in our favor. You have to understand that Sep...
Podcast in A Minor 20.09.2021 48:27
This is our 12th show. Frank Sinatra was born on 12/12 (and if you are familiar with his obscure work, then you know he worked with 12 psychic oboists). There are 12 months in a calendar year. There are 12 hours on a standard clock. There are 12 items in a dozen (and subsequently 12 dozen in a gross). There are 12 inches in a foot. There are 12 signs of the Zodiac (just ask Ted Cruz) Not that we a...
The Picnic 06.09.2021 41:43
The cage matches continue, and the victors party like it's the last office holiday party in 2019 - which means, they party politely and dignified in hopes of another year off of the Human Resources Radar. This time around we have Debbie Harry and Fiona Apple duking it out over a scrabble board, while in the second round we grease up John Fogerty and Tom Petty for some good old fashioned Greco...
Frank Sinatra: The Tenth Wonder of the World 23.08.2021 50:14
Here we are for another doubleheader of throwing random albums into the ring together with a fight to the death. Be aware that we sometimes discuss other albums not on our respective dockets, or that are on any reputable music album list known to man. Thank you all again for your continued patronage and support! Links: Curtis Mayfiled - Superfly Mobb Deep - The Infamous Eagles - Hotel Californi...
Showcase Showdown 09.08.2021 41:09
Hello once again, one and all! Welcome back to the three ring circus that is our little show. First of all, we are now accessible over the interwebs - we have email and we have a Twitter account @M_Shenanigan . We really want your feedback, no matter how bad it is!! Secondly, this show is a little different from all other shows in that in post production we allowed more to remain in the show than...
Vaudeville Thunderdome 26.07.2021 23:16
Greetings one and all! Acting as public defenders for albums we may or may not like, we are going head to head, toe to toe, and mic to mic once again. Of course, stick around as the Thunderdome walls come down in Round Two and it becomes more of a football match melee than a dignified one on one battle to the death. We thank you all again for your continued support and for coming back. Peace, Lov...
The Pretentious Sessions 12.07.2021 32:01
Greeting folks, and welcome to another heartfelt episode. We have decided to mix up the format and give you a little more color and glamour for your money - as yes, we do like to think of ourselves as a kitschy sideshow act. Think of this new format as if it were Thunderdome - with a wee bit less of a post-apocalyptic theme - but we're all dressed as Tina Turner, as we all fought for it, and...
The Letter "B" Show 21.06.2021 38:29
You have waited long enough, and the payoff, I assure you, will be quite whelming. We have scaled down the number of albums, for your listening pleasure, but mostly for our own. Tackling around 25 albums for a show was a modern day Herculean Task, that not even Hercules would agree to do - cheeky bastard!! We are proud to announce our new sponsor this week - Buzz Fizz. Tune in and enjoy another e...
The Plus 5 Edition, Part Deux 27.05.2021 34:02
Today we wrap up the artists with five or more albums in the Rolling Stone Top 500. The lesson learned is that most artists are great, but we can only take any one of them in small doses. As my grandfather at 96 years young tells me: everything in moderation. This week we are covering the following artists: The Rolling Stones Bruce Springsteen Bob Dylan Led Zeppelin We have a new sponsor with Th...
The Plus 5 Edition, Part 1 11.05.2021 25:51
We are back again to discuss the artists that have 5 or more albums in the Rolling Stone Top 500, and we still have not found that muzzle for Scott. However, I can assure you, it is nothing compared to the likes of what Yeezy says. But, please be aware (beware!) this is music commentary unfiltered like a pack of Camel, or American Spirit. This week we are covering the following acts that met the...
