Murder With Mannina

Chris analyzes the botched investigation of a famous multiple murder that took place in Indianapolis in 1978. 

A man had been missing for two months.  In an investigation that spanned three States, Chris proved the man was murdered and apprehended the suspect but to obtain a conviction, she must find the victim's body.  So, where's the body? 

Chris and Colleen review what they know about Marina's presumed death so far and Chris describes how she would investigate the case. 

Chris discusses Marina Boelter's sudden disappearance on December 31, 2014, with Marina's older sister Faith Boelter, and her sister-in-law, Ashley Boelter.  Their perspectives add a lot more clarity and color to Marina's life before her presumed death and reveal another possible suspect. 

Chris reviews a case from her home state of Indiana.  On the evening of December 31, 2014, 18-year-old Marina Boelter finished her shift at a local grocery store, accepted a ride home from a patron of the store, and was never seen again.  There are at least four, separate, viable suspects in this case. 

The Hamilton Avenue Murders are regarded as the worst mass killing in Indianapolis. Chris's friend and colleague, Coroner Justin Thompson, was one of the first people on the scene. Justin joins us to describe, not only that indelible experience, but the coroner's role at a crime scene.  He will also shatter any assumptions that coroners are dry and humorless.

This case was some of Chris's best work as an interviewer and interrogator.  When a man is murdered, finding a witness is only half the battle, the bigger challenge is getting that witness to talk.   

Finding and arresting a killer is one thing but making sure they stay in jail, is another. Chris describes what it takes to ensure that a killer is convicted. 

Chris describes the only case she had that went before a Grand Jury.   A man shot his chainsaw-wielding neighbor but his claim of self-defense also had a few holes in it. 

Valuable advice and lessons learned. That's the theme of this week's episode. Chris shares the best examples from her own career along with examples from her closest colleagues.
