Malidoma’s contradictory worlds collide.

Six weeks of initiation had changed Malidoma in ways he could never have imagined prior to his experience in the bush...although he was now finally accepted as a full member of his village there was still the lingering matter of his initial initiation in the White man’s world. Now he was part of two contradictory worlds-a new kind of Dagara man.

Father and son have to face the Village Council of elders... Malidoma cannot continue to exist in the village as an ‘inside outsider’-what will be done?

The very real differences between Malidoma’s life experiences in the Seminary and his return home to his own people were of great concern to the Dagara Village elders. They feared his exposure to the world of those who kidnapped him would continue to hinder his progress as a man unless he was able to let that part of him go-completely-through initiation.

A Homecoming isn’t always automatic acceptance. The space of time within the gap of separation can be a very wide, and at times seemingly impossible, space to fill. In line with the traditional life of his people, Malidoma’s return required serious spiritual components in order to make their house his home again.

Malidoma’s 11 day journey, by foot , finally leads him to the home and family he had been snatched away from by White European missionaries (who still haunted his psyche). He was 4 when he was taken and 20 when he returned... does one return from the dead?

Abrupt, unexpected FREEDOM finds young Malidoma...and he’s not at all sure what to do about it...

After 16 years within the realm of White Male Missionaries, young Malidoma finds himself at the center of a very unexpected turn of events...

Malidoma and his closest schoolmates, now teenagers, enjoy the freedom of a little rebellion...

The policies , procedures and processes by which the European missionaries, who kidnapped young Malidoma and many many other African children, maintain their hold on the minds, bodies and spirits of many on the continent of Africa...

From the ages of 4-12 Malidoma describes being held as a kidnapped African boy among other kidnapped African boys from various villages within the vicinity of the European Christian missioniary school/church. Beatings, isolation, Adult labor burdens on the backs of children, complete enforced identity destruction and reconstruction...
