The Mellow Factory part 5 - Classy Edition 05.09.1999

*Mix gemaakt op: 05-09-1999* Summer 1999 — The Mellow Factory returns with its classiest edition yet. This is beach house at its finest: warm, elegant and effortlessly cool. Perfect Phase, Yomanda and Rhythm Masters set the tone for a mix that feels like sundowners on a white sand beach with beautiful people. A deliberate step back from the harder sounds of Hard Energy and Monotools — this is The...

Monotools 05.07.1999

*Mix gemaakt op: 05-07-1999* July 1999 — and Stef Segers goes deep into the machine. Monotools is a journey through tech house, minimal and rhythmic techno, recorded in one take on the Technics SL1200s at a time when hard drives simply weren't big enough to do it any other way. The mix builds gradually from warm groove tech house into darker, more rhythmic techno territory — Jeff Mills and D.A.V.E...

Hard Energy 04.06.1999

*Mix gemaakt op: 04-06-1999* June 1999 — a bold step into new territory. Hard Energy is the first hard house mix in the series and a direct tribute to the sound that was exploding out of England and rapidly taking over Dutch dancefloors. Harder, faster and more aggressive than anything before it in the catalogue — this is Stef Segers stepping outside his comfort zone and delivering a full hour of...

The Mellow Factory part 4 04.05.1999

*Mix gemaakt op: 04-05-1999* May 1999 — The Mellow Factory Part 4, the Summer Edition. And what a summer it was shaping up to be. This mix is a snapshot of the charts and the clubs colliding in perfect harmony: Pete Heller, Phats & Small, Mr. Oizo and Chicane were everywhere that year, and here they are together in one set. Cassius opens the doors, ATB and Chicane's Saltwater close them — everythi...

The Mellow Factory 3 Live Edition 1999 04.04.1999

*Mix gemaakt op: 04-04-1999* April 1999 — The Mellow Factory goes live. This third volume in the 1999 series captures the energy of a real dancefloor in a way a studio mix never quite can. Three Drives On A Vinyl, Signum and Scott Mac point firmly towards the progressive trance sound that was dominating clubs across Europe, while DJ Antoine, Frank 'O Moiraghi and Bas Molendyk keep the house roots...

Eyedea 04.03.1999

*Mix gemaakt op: 04-03-1999* March 1999 — a new title, a new direction. Eyedea marks a clear step away from the mellow club house of the early Mellow Factory days into harder, darker territory. This is the sound of 1999 in full effect: driving progressive trance and hard house with an underground edge. Ron Hagen & Pascal M., DJ Tomcraft and Bleep & Booster lead the charge through a set that doesn'...

The Mellow Factory - After Party II - 1999 04.02.1999

*Mix gemaakt op: 04-02-1999* February 1999 — the after party continues. This second After Party instalment shows exactly where the scene was heading in early 1999: the boundaries between house and trance were dissolving fast. System F, Tony De Vit and DJ Jurgen sit comfortably alongside the deeper grooves of Pronti & Kalmani and D.O.N.S. — a mix that captures that exact moment when the dancefloor...

The Mellow Factory 1 - 1999 04.01.1999

*Mix gemaakt op: 04-01-1999* January 1999 — The Mellow Factory enters its second year and the Amsterdam sound is evolving. This first instalment of the new series stays true to its roots while pushing deeper into the groove. Vincent De Moor, Southside Spinners and Sequential One set the tone alongside a selection of underground Amsterdam cuts that defined what was happening in the clubs at the tur...

Welcome To The Future 04.12.1998

*Mix gemaakt op: 04-12-1998* A new chapter. After a full year of The Mellow Factory, Welcome To The Future marks a shift in direction — deeper, darker and more eclectic. By late 1998 Stef Segers had become Dutch DJ Champion, was playing Paradiso in Amsterdam and this mix captures exactly where his sound was heading. Old school house classics sit alongside techno influences from Speedy J and Hardfl...

The Mellow Factory - december 1998 04.12.1998

*Mix gemaakt op: 04-12-1998* December 1998 — the last mix of the year and a fitting close to an incredible twelve months. The Mellow Factory wraps up 1998 with the pure Amsterdam sound that defined the late 90s scene, already hinting at what the new millennium would bring. Basement Jaxx, ATB and Niels Van Gogh sit comfortably next to deeper Amsterdam cuts — a snapshot of a scene in transition. Fro...

The Mellow Factory - November 98 04.11.1998

*Mix gemaakt op: 04-11-1998* November 1998 — as the nights get longer, The Mellow Factory gets deeper. *Mix gemaakt op: 04-10-1998* October 1998 — the tenth mix and The Mellow Factory series shows no signs of slowing down. This one has a darker, more driving edge to it, perfectly matching the shift into autumn. From the underground feel of Subclub and Circuit Boy to the anthemic energy of The Black & White Brothers and Hybrid — a set that takes you deeper into the night with every track. One of the...

The Mellow Factory - September 98 04.09.1998

*Mix gemaakt op: 04-09-1998* September 1998 — summer is over but the dancefloor isn't. The Mellow Factory series rolls on with another hour and thirteen minutes of pure late 90s club house. This one leans deeper and more progressive, building from the funky opening of Plastic Voice and JX Experience through to the hypnotic closing grooves of Pronti & Kalmani and Lights From Above. A perfect transi...

The Mellow Factory - august 98 01.08.1998

*Mix gemaakt op: 01-08-1998* August 1998 — The Mellow Factory is back. After the Summer Vibes detour this set returns to the dancefloor roots that made the series what it is, drawing straight from the legendary Club IT Amsterdam sound. Cool, deep and unmistakably late 90s. From the funk of Afrika Bambaataa's Planet Rock 98 rework to the driving club energy of DJ Jean and Bleep & Booster — this is...

*Mix gemaakt op: 04-06-1998* June 1998 — the sixth chapter of The Mellow Factory series and another journey through the sound that defined the late 90s club scene. This one starts mellow and warm, gradually building towards the harder club trance that was taking over the dancefloor. From the soulful grooves of R. Mills feat. Maxine and Marco V. & Benjamin to the driving energy of Amorph and Nitro...

The Mellow Factory - May 98 04.05.1998

*Mix gemaakt op: 04-05-1998* May 1998 — and every single second of this mix had to count. Back in these days hard drive space was too limited to record, edit and re-record, so everything had to be perfect in one take. No second chances, no fixing mistakes — just pure DJ craft on the Technics SL1200. The result speaks for itself. Featuring club classics from Shades of Rhythm, Kentish Man, Peran, DJ...
