One of our elders, Nate O'Brien closes out our series on the Romans' Road by diving into Romans 8:1. What does it mean that there is no condemnation for those in Christ? How do Christians walk in the freedom that the Gospel provides?

Now that we have discussed the message of the Gospel for the first three weeks of this series, it's time we ask the question: "What must I do to be saved?" How is someone supposed to respond to the message of the Gospel? This is such an important question and one that has been answered in many unbiblical ways. Many Christians would sum up the Gospel message by saying something like "Christ died for me." While that's an absolutely true statement and a good summary, we still need to be able to explain what that means. On this stop of the Romans' Road, we will examine what it means that Christ died for us.

Now that we have covered what sin is and why it matters, let's talk about the consequences of sin and what the Gospel does to remedy those consequences. some have said Romans 6:23 can be used in "one-verse evangelism" because this one verse gives us a really great snapshot of the Gospel message.

The first stop on the Romans' Road explains why we need salvation in the first place. Though we are made in the image of God, sin has marred that image and the truth is, there is nothing we can do to save ourselves.

One of the marks of a biblical, healthy, God-honoring local church is the practice of church discipline. Immediately, most of us have a very negative idea of what church discipline is based on what we’ve been taught or seen play out in other churches. Jesus Himself taught this practice and shows us why it’s actually not a negative thing, but one of the most important things a local church can do.

This section of Matthew closes out with Jesus' response to the great need of the people around Him and His call for us to respond as well. This is one of the more well-known sections of Matthew and we will dive deep into these verses to discover how we should respond to the plentiful harvest of souls all around us.

The final miracle Matthew records in this section of his Gospel account is probably the one with the fewest details. Why would he not take a little more time to tell us more about Jesus healing this demon-possessed man? Probably because there's a point Matthew wants to make that could easily be missed in the details, so he spells it out for us plainly in this short story.

Two blind men come to Jesus in faith for Him to heal them. They saw what many of the Jews and even the Pharisees had missed - that Jesus is the Promised Messiah. But out of all the blind people that Jesus ever healed during His earthly ministry, what made these two stick out to Matthew enough to record their story?

In this story, we see Jesus perform a miracle on His way to perform another one. Three of the four Gospels record these two miracles of Jesus right alongside each other. Listen as one of our elders - John Wilbanks - walks us through this amazing account.

Many of the artistic depictions of Jesus do not match what Isaiah describes in Isaiah 53. We are told that "he had no form or majesty that we should look at him, and no beauty that we should desire him." How can we have hope when we continue to sin? How do we know that He will save us in the end after all our failings? Psalm 22 doesn't necessarily read like a Christmas song. But as we focus on verses 9-10, we see that ever since He was in the womb of Mary, Jesus entrusted Himself to the Father. And even on the cross, when He shouted "My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?" He was still trusting in the Father. This Psalm teaches us some really powerful lessons on how to have hope in the midst of our afflictons...

Psalm 2 is perhaps one of the strongest cases in the Bible made for the sovereignty of Jesus Christ over the nations. When we celebrate Christmas, we are not simply engaging in nostalgic remembrance of the baby born in Bethlehem. We are worshipping the Anointed, Sovereign King who came, died, rose again, and now rules and reigns over all the nations of the earth!

This passage of Scripture has been taught with a certain interpretation for many years. While the traditional reading is not necessarily wrong, it does seem to miss the main point of the text. As we begin this passage with a theological lesson, we end up finding that this is one of the most encouraging sections of Matthew to date for those of us frustrated with our own sin.
