Another sketch from Croatia - the view of the moon and waves between the islands of Pržnjak and Trstenik. Link to the post.

Another sketch from Croatia - the view of the moon and waves between the islands of Pržnjak and Trstenik. More development.... Link to the post.

Another sketch from Croatia - the view of the moon and waves between the islands of Pržnjak and Trstenik. A little speedy indexing through my longer ebow recordings in the second layer that comes in around :16. Link to the post.

Another sketch from Croatia - the view of the moon and waves between the islands of Pržnjak and Trstenik. It actually took a minute to get this arp figure going with guitar samples. Link to the post.

A variation from yesterday. Still not sure why the samples aren't wrapping around, but there's something here... Link to the post.

I'll remember this sketch because the demo here sounds like it did in my head. We saw an electrical storm like no other from Korčula, looking east to Dubrovnik. There were intense rains that day, but by night we were oceanside at our Potirna Air Bnb under a moderate breeze, watching 3 parallel lightning shows duke it out. Link to the post.

The Cicadas on Korčula are lodged in the ear of anyone who's visted the mediterranean. I found this recording of a the ID chimes of the Shortwave service of Radio Ukraine I recorded back in 2006. Link to the post.

While in Croatia this month, I was digging through some old tapes and found a recording of Radio Bulgaria I made from 2006. Not sure what happened here - they started playing a traditional tune, then kicked into this hold-music funk. I'm digging the solo sections - terrible and tight ending! Pictured are some paste-ups from this week in Zagreb. Link to the post.

While in Croatia this month, I was digging through some old tapes and found a recording of Radio Bulgaria I made from 2006. There's a point where they switch from French to English service, and this VERY proggy theme kicks in. Pictured is a piece by Hrvoje Šercar (I think) from the Museum of Naive Art in Zagreb. While in Croatia this month, I was digging through some old tapes and found a recording of Radio Bulgaria I made from 2006. There's a scene in one of my favorite movies Never Cry Wolf, where the main character is listening to a distant broadcast just after he's been dropped off on the frozen tundra to begin his solo adventure studying Canis Lupis. I'm going to go see if this is the act...

I extended my Thuja library and have a bare bones live coding setup, finally. This is a little distorted bit from the end of tonight's experiment. Link to the post.

Playing with octave dispersions on this one, better balance and less distortion. Link to the post.

Written in Korčula, Croatia - I had a surge of stuff fall into the notebook on my first beach day. I'd sample my SG a few different ways so I could play with the Guitar Cult sound sans the people. This one is inspired by the stoic exterior we encounter with so many until our first words were spoken. Link to the post.

Another pass on the citations from yesterday, with the breaks cut out. To be able to play this... Link to the post.

Sometime during Covid I started really honing in on this engine Hetfield created with his right hand, and remembered reading him claiming it was all downstrokes. It seemed impossible, but of course there are tons of youtube posts now discussing and celebrating this sound. I don't know that I'll ever get there, but I have turned it into a warm up and meditiation of sorts - here are some of...

Metallica hit town just as we were heading off for 2 weeks in Croatia - Rob and Brian at work went, which sparked a whole conversation on what is good/bad metal from their blossoming and what constituted 'good' Metallica. They have been lost on me for decades, but there was a time when I heard sounds on their records that felt as.. what's the word for recasting your context? There are...

"Arkansas Traveler" is a traditional fiddle tune that I first heard electrified on a compilation of Speedy West and Jimmy Bryant's called Stratosphere Boogie. My god did I love this record - I played it incessantly and absorbed the sounds throughout high school, but didn't think myself capable of playing any of it until later. Jimmy Bryant's technique is so amazing -...

From May 29 One little addition to yesterday's notebook page. The middle voice starts to expand and permute. Link to the post.
