So many nights at the space - I am here for the first time in months. How many nights have I been here, doing something quiet with loud next door, or doing something loud to kill the quiet concentration of my neighbor? I'm so grateful for this space. Link to the post.

Leesa Likes the owl sounds much better than the coyotes. It's been very still at night, the valley socked in with fog. Your eyes think that the sound will be dead in somehow, but it actually acts as a sort of filter and I got really clean recordings of some nearby owls, clean of most of the background noise I've been getting off the road below. They have a little chuckle or cluck they do a...

Wow - these guys were CLOSE. A lot of complexity compared to other nights. Link to the post.

Good night! We're all exhaused. Link to the post.

We passed inspection and did a weekend of back-rending chores. Poor Mikey caught the worst of it. Lots of chill fall air out there, with beautiful clear nights - I've scored this scene many times, like this bit from Urban Scarecrow, Andy's 2nd film. I think that's Tom Swafford on violin? Hi Tom, if you're out there! Link to the post.

The day of thanks, so grateful for the family I have, living so close to them in a time of crisis this month. Link to the post.

A little messing with yesterday's bit. Link to the post.

Jason sends a short piece on the range hood strapping. Sounds hot to me. Link to the post.

King Crimson tunes with Steve Vai and Adrian Belew, Danny Carey from Tool and Tony Levin. My god what chops. Great to see Dave Verkade and Levi Fuller there, along with Jason, Preston and brother Matt. Yes, Vai sells autographed practice amps at the merch table! Listen to Belew go in this solo snip - WOW. Link to the post.

The fireplace is mesmerizing to everyone here. This is a remix of one of a few solo piano cues from Andy's film Urban Scarecrow. Link to the post.

Love that Wond - haven't broken it out enough lately, but now that I've got tags and playlists for those tags, I am revisiting everything I've been doing with it. It's a device that really speaks to me, that I feel very much at home with. Lots of drillin today. I exchanged a bottle of whiskey for hay today. Link to the post.

This weekend I spent a chunk of time updating all the posts with tags, which link now to tag-specific pages which contain tag-specific players. I've been playing with this groove this week for Chiwas. I feel like Marc Ribot here. Could be tighter. Link to the post.

Spent the day hammering and sawing as we build a utility shed, then came in and improvised this. Jason said something about Andy Summers in reference to my playing, and I tried to remember how many times I have ripped off the guitar break he plays on Someone to Talk To Link to the post.

Trying to be spontaneous today, I cleared my head, hit record and captured some passages, going where the hands led me. I sampled these to the ep-133, learned how to tweak em, getting the worklfow down quick. Link to the post.

No cyclone hit us, mom made it home from the nursing home without breaking anything. A very balanced, clear day. Link to the post.

Bomb Cyclone on the way, and we don't have our generator working. The lights are flickering like crazy. Link to the post.

All caught up, once again. This little guy flew out of my case when I grabbed my SG tonight. Link to the post.

I watched a video on youtube where the comment is made that the EP-133 is a modern SK1 - easy, immediate and flexible. I love this little machine and this video made me relearn the sampling workflow. Link to the post.

I pulled out the DAT to do some transfers for John, and found a rehearsal tape for a piece I wrote in 99/2000 called From Mixdown. Growing pains for me. I listened to a little bit of this and lost sleep thinking about how tortured and anxious music used to make me, how much pressure I put on myself to strike a new path, no matter what it sounded like. And Carsten worked so hard to play my little g...

Last collage from Racine. This is Pat Martino being stuttertrapped into a different solo. Still kinda sounds like him, doesn't it? Link to the post.

November 14, 2024 14.11.2024

Second-to-last collage from Racine, in a busy week where I'm not able to practice or write. Next week we catch up. Link to the post.

Another function of these tape pause pieces is to distill the soundworld of a recording while taking it completely out of the original, especially rhythmically. Little production decorations get new emphasis. Can't forget the trip to Kewpees. This one looks like a GBV cover photo to me. Link to the post.

Daddo's birthday, and I didn't grab any of the audio from our trivia night at Dusty's Hideaway. More Racine Collage. Listen to the punch-cut guitar solo, and the unison line at the end. Much more interesting than the actual jam session I was hearing on the radio. Link to the post.
