After the destruction of Southern Canaan, Jabin, King of Hazor, rallied the remaining northern Canaanite kings to attack Joshua. Joshua learns of the gathering of forces and he marches north and surprises them at the Waters of Merom. In another biblical suddenly, Joshua destroys these armies and begins his northern campaign to conquer the rest of Canaan.

When Adoni-Jesek learns of the defection of the Gibeonites, he rallies the remaining five Amorite kings and attacks them.
