Men's Bible Study - RLC

We follow 2 of Abraham's 3 visitors to Sodom. We discuss their encounter with Lot and with the people (men) of Sodom.

We examine Abraham's negotiation with God and learn a surprising amount about God's nature and character.

We discuss Abraham's three visitors, the fact that one of them is God (but in what way, exactly?), and the all important theme that God sees, hears, and knows all (a component of the fear of the Lord).

We finish our look at God's covenant (with Abraham). We examine how Sarah and Ishmael are associated with that covenant and Abraham's eagerness and quickness to obey.

We take a deep dive into God's covenant that He made with Abraham - who was responsible for what, how long it would be in effect and the sign of that covenant.

We examined the remaining interaction between Hagar and God and the unexpected - she named God! We also began our look at God preparing to enter into an official covenant with Abram.

We studied Sarai's (and Abram's) response to Hagar's pregnancy and (possibly) Hagar's actions. We also looked at Hagar's interaction with the Angel of the Lord and the promises regarding Ishmael.

We finish up our walk through (pun intended) the ritual of the land grant treaty between God and Abram. We then looked at Test #5 for Abram - Hagar.

We discuss Abram questioning God's promises and God responding by making a land grant treaty with him. God also provides Abram insight into the future.

We examine Abram's interaction with two Kings. First, the King of Salem and then the King of Sodom. We also discussed the parallels between this King and Priest of Salem and the ultimate King and Priest (Messiah).

We looked at the split between Abram and Lot and God giving Abram a 'new start'. We also did some introductory look into the upcoming story of the battle of the Kings.

We continue with God's promises to Abram and Abram's journey through Canaan, the famine, and the journey to Egypt.

We finished our discussion of the story of Babel and covered the genealogy from Noah to Abram. We also started looking at Abram's 'call' from God.

We discuss the story of Babel and some of the extrabiblical traditions that help to inform some of the larger story.

We discuss the curse of Canaan, the end of Noah's life, and the table of nations.

We discuss the rainbow as a sign of the covenant God made with Noah (and covenant signs, in general). We also discuss what happened between Noah and Ham including the many interpretations and how they might connect to the 'big story'.

We examine the details of the covenant God makes with Noah (mankind), all other living creatures (except maybe fish? ;-) ), and even the earth itself. We discuss the basic requirements of all humans before God - whether believers or not.

Noah leaves the ark, Noah offers worship (sacrifices), and we are introduced to the Noahide covenant.

We examine the detailed account of the 'weakening' waters and how the overall imagery continually alludes back to the creation story of Genesis 1.

We continue with the story of Noah. We see the poetic emphasis on the rising of the waters and the death of all living things. The flood will now begin to subside.

We continue with the story of Noah. We highlight the threefold aspect of all of the repetition in the story: the command, the execution, the completion. The flood has begun.

We noted the text's emphasis on 'pairs' for reproduction, the call backs to the language of the first creation story of Gen 1 (according to their kind), recalling Noah's righteousness (he did all that the Lord commanded), the introduction to clean and unclean animals (with no explanation), and forty days of rain and the connection of 'forty' to judgment, trial, etc... throu...

We discussed how man's corruption has affected (infected?) everything, we covered some of the amazing attributes of the ark, we noted the recurring theme of the righteousness of one man saving many, and we were introduced to the idea of 'covenant' for the first time.
