Meet the Farmers

This week Ben meets Wiltshire based mixed farmer (dairy, arable, beef), David Butler, and learns about how he keeps his business sustainable through a multi-enterprise approach.

Ben speaks to Sue Pritchard, CEO at the Food, Farming and Countryside Commission, and Becky Speight, CEO at the RSPB about the FFCC's new report: 'Farming for Change'.

Ben meets West Sussex dairy farmer Dan Burdett who recently did his Nuffield scholarship on 'Increasing productivity through increasing diversity on UK dairy farms'. Dan worked away from the farm in London for several years and travelled the world before joining the family business.

Ben meets first generation dairy farmer Alex Heffron who farms with his wife Sam in Pembrokeshire.

Ben meets Cambridgeshire farmer Tom Clarke and they talk about how Tom's life was turned upside down when his father died and he was launched in at the deep end, heading back to manage the family farm in the Fens. They also talk sugar, soil, nature and much more.

Alongside the week's farming news Ben meets Tom Jones, a sheep and beef farmer from Montgomerishire in mid Wales. Tom has also been a contract shepherd and shearer and is a livestock focus farmer writer for Farmers Weekly.
