આજના અધ્યાયની શરૂઆત માં રાજા પરીક્ષિત શુકદેવજીને પ્રશ્ન કરે છે કે જાતજાતની સિદ્ધિઓ ઉપલબ્ધ હોવા છતાં ભગવાન ઋષભદેવ એ આ બધી સિદ્ધિઓ કેમ સ્વીકારી નહીં. તેના જવાબમાં શુકદેવજી ભગવાન ઋષભદેવ નું ચરિત્ર અને તેમના દેહત્યાગ ની વાત કરે છે અને સમજાવે છે કે રજોગુણ વાળા વ્યક્તિઓને કેવી રીતે મોક્ષ માર્ગ પ્રાપ્ત કરવો તેનું જ્ઞાન ઋષભદેવના જીવનમાંથી આપણને ઉપલબ્ધ થાય છે.

જૈન ધર્મના પ્રથમ તીર્થંકર મહારાજ ઋષભદેવ એ સબળ રાજા છે પણ આધ્યાત્મમાં એટલું જ ઊંડાણ ધરાવે છે. તેઓ પોતાના પૂત્રોની સાથે બ્રાહ્મણોએ કરેલા એક મહાયજ્ઞમાં ભાગ લે છે અને ત્યાં પોતાના પુત્રોને આધ્યાત્મનો સર્વ પ્રથમ ઉપદેશ આપે છે. આ ઉપદેશ જૈન ધર્મની પ્રથમ કેડી છે. ત્યારબાદ પુત્ર ભરતને પોતાનું રાજ્ય સોંપી અને મહારાજ ઋષભ દે દેવ અવધૂત માર્ગ ધારણ કરે છે. આ અધ્યાયમાં આપણે સાચો અવધૂત કેવો હોય અને ત્યાગનો સાચો અર્...

આ અધ્યાયમાં આપણે મહારાજ નાભીની વાર્તા સાંભળીશું. મહારાજ નાભી પુત્રહીન છે, તેથી બ્રાહ્મણોની મદદથી તેઓ ભગવાન વિષ્ણુને પ્રસન્ન કરવા માટે મહાયજ્ઞ આદરે છે. ભગવાન વિષ્ણુ પ્રસન્ન થઈને આ યજ્ઞમાં પ્રગટ થાય છે જ્યાં બ્રાહ્મણો એમની પાસે સર્વથા ભગવાનનું સ્મરણ રહે એવું વરદાન અને મહારાજ નાભિ ભગવાન જેવો પુત્ર મળે તેવું વરદાન માંગે છે. ભગવાન વિષ્ણુ બંને વરદાન આપે છે.

પાંચમા સ્કંધના બીજા અધ્યાયમાં આપણે રાજા આગ્નીદ્રની કથા સાંભળીશું. તેઓ પ્રિયવ્રત ના પુત્ર છે. રાજા આગ્નીદ્રને પુત્ર પ્રાપ્તિની ઈચ્છા છે અને તે માટે તેઓ બ્રહ્માજીની તપસ્યા કરે છે. બ્રહ્માજી પ્રસન્ન થઈને પોતાની અપ્સરા પૂર્વચીતીને તેમની પાસે મોકલે છે. અપ્સરાથી મોહિત થઈ અને રાજા આગ્નીદ્ર એની સાથે વિવાહ કરે છે અને નવ પુત્રોને જન્મ આપે છે. આગ્નીદ્ર રાજા તરીકે ખૂબ કુશળ છે પણ એ જ સમયે તેઓ વિષય વાદી પણ છે....

પાંચમા સ્કંધના પ્રથમ અધ્યાયમાં આપણે સર્વ પ્રથમ રાજા પ્રિયવ્રત નું ચરિત્ર સાંભળીશું. પ્રિયવ્રત એ સ્વયંભૂવ મનુ ના બીજા નંબરના પુત્ર છે ચોથા સ્કંધમાં આપણે મહારાજ ઉત્તાનપાદ ની કથા સાંભળી આ અધ્યાયમાં આપણે પ્રિયવ્રત અને એમના વંશજો ની વાત સાંભળીશું. પ્રિયવ્રત તે આત્મજ્ઞાની રાજા હતા. રાજ્ય એમની પ્રથમ પ્રાથમિકતા ન હતી છતાં પણ બ્રહ્માજી અને પોતાના પિતા સ્વાયંભુવ મનુની વાત સાંભળીને તેમણે રાજ્યનો સ્વીકાર કર્ય...

After accomplishing their tasks on the Earth, prachetas left their wife and kids and went to the Western seafront for their penance. That is where they met Naradji and sri Naradji gave them the lost knowledge of spirtiualism again. Listening to that prachetas felt the full devotion to the Lord Vishnu and reached his abode. 

Vidurji asks Maitrayaji about how Prachetas got to meet the Lord Vishnu and what did he say to them. Maitrayaji informs him of the story and how the Lord appeared in front of Prachetas and then they all offered a stuti the Lord. They all married to the daughter of an apsara and rishi Kundu and their son was the reincarnation of Daksha.

In the second part of the exploring meaning of Puranjan's story, we understand another metaphorical story that talks about a deer. Through this story, Naradji attempts to make the King Prachinbruhi, why he needs to stop his killing of animals in the yagna and focus on the penance and bhakti towards the Lord Vishnu. Just continuing to do karma without understanding its dharma is fruitless. 

The story of Puranjan is a metaphor and so Naradji now explains the king Prachinbruhi the real meaning of it. In the first part, we hear about what the story of Puranjan in the initial aspects means including why the nourishment of the soul cannot be achieved by just focusing on materialism. We also hear how worldly pleasures move us away from the bhakti of the Lord. 

Puranjan dies of old age and goes to hell where the animals he had killed before attack him. Later on he gets another birth as the daughter of the king of Vidharbha. The princess then marries to the king of Pandya, Malaydhwaja. In his later life, as the king leaves his kingdom for penance, his queen (who was in previous life Puranjan) also joins. King Puranjan is completely devoted to his family life and has forgotten to focus on the kingdom or the purushartha, the aims of life. In that period, the kalkanya (old age), builds a connection with the king fear and his brother prajwar (fever due to illness) and start attacking Puranjan and his kingdom. 

The king Puranjan goes out for hunting one day while leaving his queen and kills numerous animals. His cruel approach to life is reflected upon. When he gets back tired from the hunt, he realises that his queen is angry on him and so he goes to her palace to appease her and using his sweet tongue does so.

Maharaj Prachinbruhi meets muni Narad who asks the king about the need for so many yagna he has been doing and informs him that just focusing on the yagna and not on their meaning won't allow the king to reach moksha that he desires. Muni Narad tells the story of Puranjan. In that story, Puranjan searches for a kindgom to live in and find a wife to marry and meets a lady of that kind near Himalaya...

Maharaj Pruthu has left the Earth and we hear about his progeny. We hear about Vijitashwa, his son, and his life, followed by a reflection on Maharaj Prachinbruhi and his sons. These sons meet Lord Shankar when they go for a penance and Lord Shankar teaches them a stuti of Lord Vishnu. 

After being a devout king for a many years, Maharaj Pruthu decides to leave his kingdom and focus on the spiritual path and enlightenment of the self. He goes to the forest and focuses on the penance and soul cleansing. Maharani Archi also joins him in this journey and they both reach moksha. We again hear about the way of Moksha.
