Richard Frethorne was an indentured servant working at Martin’s Hundred, a plantation a few miles from Jamestown, a year after an Indian attack in 1622 left hundreds dead in the area. A year later the royal government took over the struggling colony.

The Virginia Company's defense of their colony and its charter, presented to the King after several critics had attacked the mismanagement of the colony and lodged grievances against its leaders with the English government. 

Captain Nathaniel Butler was an English privateer and governor of Bermuda. In 1621 he visited Jamestown for about a year and wrote a scathing report he presented to the King's Privy Council.

William Bradford (1590-1657) was an English Puritan Separatist who moved to Holland in 1608 to avoid religious persecution. In 1620 he and 101 other "Pilgrims" set sail on the Mayflower. Although originally bound for Virginia, they arrived at Cape Cod and established Plymouth. Bradford became governor of the colony in 1621. William Strachey (1572-1621) was a passenger aboard the Sea Venture which ran aground off the coast of Bermuda.
