Some days we're on the mountain, some days we're in the valley. In those seasons of darkness and hurt, platitudes just don't work to bring a light and life again to our soul. What pulls us out of that place is God's love.

The world we're living in is unstable and evil. But the LORD is trustworthy and promises to take care of His people. Looking through the lens of Elijah and his courageous stand against idols, we can see that our God is for us and with us and will come through in the end.

The spirit of consecration describes an attitude of heart and approach towards holy living that is motivated not by "have to" but "want to". A passion to give God our best rather than bare minimum with intentionality to be set apart for Him.

If you knew you only had a short time left to live, what would you do? In a stunning record, King Hezekiah is told he will die and ought to "set his house in order". This pursuit is a high and holy calling for God's people in this moment as well. We need to resolve to have our marriages, children, and home life be consecrated for for the LORD.

What we believe influences our behavior. Both truth and lies have the power to affect how we live. Daniel models how to believe God's truth in a world system designed to disorient God's people. He knew who he was because he knew whose he was.

The gospel is not something we just believe once but something we should remember and believe every day. It is the truth that should shape our thinking, which in turn will shape our lives.

The gospel message is the announcement of the great plan of God and how in the end He will be glorified. A correct response to this good news is to live a life that glorifies God. The end goal of all of life is that God may be glorified.

The return of Jesus Christ is not only the hope of the Christian, it is an important element to the gospel message itself. This truth announces that judgement day is coming to the world and justice is coming for God's people. In addition, it serves as our motivation to live holy and for eternal things as we wait for God's kingdom to come.

The gospel isn't just true, it's powerful. God has infused this message with a power which brings life and transformation to those who believe it. And yet it is tempting to think the gospel isn't enough because it seems foolish in the world's eyes or not working in the ways we want. Nevertheless, the power of the gospel remains and God's people can believe this once again today.

The gospel is the announcement of what has happened, what will happen and what is happening now because of Jesus Christ. It is not just the news about these events but the declaration of the effect of these events on the world and especially on those who believe the good news. What Jesus Christ has accomplished is good news!

The Christian gospel isn't a good feeling or good advice, it's good news. It is the announcement of something that has happened, something that will happen and something is happening now - all centering in God's great work through Jesus Christ.

Jesus tells a story to illustrate the core message of the biblical gospel and answer the question of whether or a not a person who has lived for themselves be brought back home to God. Often called the "parable of the prodigal son", this story teaches us about God, ourselves and what God's heart is towards his children when we wake up and recognize our need for him.

God doesn't tell His people to stop sinning and leave it at that. He calls us to a new life instead of our old life. He calls us to be holy instead of being unholy. He calls us to truth instead of lies. The daily life of a Christian is choosing to living the new way instead of the old way - fueled, empowered and directed by the Holy Spirit.

Humanity's default setting is not to live for God but to live for self. When a person turns their life to Christ and receives the Holy Spirit, things can change and new life begins from the inside out. Even as Christians, we will still struggle, needing to daily live by the God's power and not return to our default setting.

John 3:16 might be the greatest verse in the Scriptures. This one verse tells us a lot about God, Jesus and all of us, which in turn, is the more important news for all of us to hear and believe.

Scriptures tells us: "Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a one sows, this he will also reap." (Galatians 6:7). So, will we sow spiritual seeds which will produce spiritual fruit or will you plant seeds of self and this world and produce that kind of fruit? The choices, decisions and habits of today will affect our lives tomorrow.

Scientifically, thorns are made of the same elements as a stem or branch, but something has happened to it to inhibit it’s proper growth. As time passes, we adopt beliefs and behaviors that shape us. What habits, routines or practices are helping or hurting your growth and fruitfulness as a follower of Jesus? A look at the seed that fell among the thorns from the parable of the sower.

The function of thorns is to steal the resources and nutrients needed to bring fruit to maturity. Through the parable of the sower, Jesus warns us about the things of this world which will do that to our spiritual lives.
