In a church racked with divisions and doctrinal problems the Apostle Paul opens his Corinthian letter with the cross of Jesus Christ, the most necessary center of the gospel.

“Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.” – Ephesians 4:3-6 (NIV)

Baptism means, to be immersed. We are to maintain the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. Our unity is based on the theological oneness of God. Paul says in Ephesians 4:5 that there is one Lord, one faith, and one baptism. The one Lord is Jesus and the content of the one faith is the gospel Jesus (the one Lord and Savior). Paul writes in Ephesians 4 that we maintain the unity of the Spirit. This is our calling as followers of Jesus. Believers are one in Christ and share one faith. The one faith is not the act of believing but what we choose to trust. There is only one thing that Christians choose to place their trust.
