Linder Farm Network Field Talk

Pork demand is on the increase both globally and domestically, which is playing a key role in pork profitability. Dr. David Newman is the senior vice president of market growth for the National Pork Board. He joined the Linder Farm Network's Dan Lemke to highlight current trends and what the Pork Board is doing to build demand. 

USDA announced it is cutting a major cattle inventory report. The July Cattle Inventory report, which is  one of two inventory reports released each year, will no longer be provided. Tanner Beymer, Senior Director of Government Affairs at the National Cattlemen's Beef Association joined the LFN to explain by the NCBA is opposed to the action. 

Ethanol proponents are waiting for the final word on several key issues that will impact the opportunity for the industry. American Coalition for Ethanol CEO Brian Jennings joined Linda Brekke to give an update on several issues including year-round E15 and adoption of the GREET model. 

Highly pathogenic avian influenza cases have been confirmed in cattle herds in 7 states. While no cases have been confirmed in dairy cows in Minnesota, HPAI was detected in a Minnesota goat herd several weeks ago. University of MInnesota Extension Livestock Educator Dr. Joe Armstrong addresses the situation. 

More than one-third of the nation's farmers are women. For 26 years, the Women’s Agricultural Leadership Conference has helped to empower women in agriculture. The 2024 Conference is coming up in April. Co-founder Doris Mold describes what this year's event is all about. 

Winter 2023-2024 has been one for the record books which has allowed farmers to do some things they've never done before--including planting soybeans in February and March.
