1 JOHN 5:1-5 As Christians, we’ve overcome the world, not because of our own strength, but through Christ we have gained victory.

1 JOHN 4:13-21 Returning to the instructions given previously in his letter, John reminds us to be confident in God’s love shown to us in Christ.

1 JOHN 4:7-12 John encourages us to love, but it’s important we don’t put the cart before the horse – our love is contingent upon and finds its origin in the love of God.  We only know what true love is because God first loved us.

1 JOHN 4:1-6 The apostle John warns of religious scammers who threatened to deceive the church, instructing them to be discerning, to test whether they’re legit or not.

1 JOHN 3:11-24 A key characteristic of a believer is that they will not be like Cain, who hated and therefore murdered his brother, but rather they will be like Christ, and love their brother in Christ with a sacrificial love.

1 JOHN 3:4-10 Those who are true believers, while still struggling against sin, will not engage in ongoing, persistent, unrepentant sin.

1 John 2:12-14 The apostle John reviews basic truths about Christians: they know the Father, their sins are forgiven, and they have overcome the evil one.

Easter Sunday 2025 we examine the historical evidence of the resurrection.

1 John 2:7-11 Expounding obeying the Lord’s commandment to love, we show ourselves to be in the light when we love our brothers, but hating our brother has the opposite effect: it demonstrates we’re still in darkness.

1 John 2:1-6 We’re provided a way to determine the genuineness of someone’s profession of faith: if we claim to know Christ, then the proof will be seen when we obey Christ, repenting of sin and pursuing righteousness.

1 John 1:5-10

1 John 1: 1-4 The apostle John testifies to being an eyewitness to Christ, and what Christ has done should result in us having fellowship with God, with fellow believers in the church, and joy.

People sometimes move on to a new church, but that’s not always done well or for the right reasons.  We’ll explore when one need to leave a church and how to do so in a manner than honors God and protects the church from unnecessary harm.

The Church Gathered for Worship –  What does the church do when gathered together?  While worship is the central goal, how do we effectively accomplish that goal through singing, giving, and preaching?

Baptism and the Lord’s Supper –  Jesus instituted two ordinances for the church to practice in his absence, and so we’ll learn about the meaning of baptism and why we should regularly participate in the Lord’s Supper.

The Lord Jesus provided us instructions on how to deal with conflict in the church in Matthew 18, and so it would be wise to learn from him and put his words into practice, for the church’s good and his glory.

What does it mean to be a church member? Explore why church membership is a biblical concept and what that means for how we relate to the local church.

The New Testament pattern is two offices in the church: Elder and Deacon. Elders lead, teach, and oversee. Deacons serve, assist, minister, and care for God’s people. The Church has been changed with the joyful responsibility to proclaim the gospel: that our righteous God, who must punish us for our sin, has in love sent his Son to die on the cross in our place, so that anyone who believes in him would be forgiven and have eternal life.

God has called the church to a magnificent mission: for God to be glorified through Christ, as his people seek to proclaim Christ and make disciples of all nations.

What is this gift called the church and what does God hope to accomplish through it?  We’ll consider the church universal and local, as well as how Scripture refers to the church as the Body of Christ, the Bride of Christ, and the family of God.

Churches today are structured in various configurations. Unfortunately many depart from the clear instructions of Scripture. The Bible is not silent on how the church is to be led. The New Testament teaches God's way is the best way: churches should be led by a plurality of elders, functioning under Jesus Christ as the Chief Pastor.
