The Resurrection of Jesus is harshly attacked by critics. But, the historical resurrection is a central truth of the gospel. In this sermon we find seven reasons why the resurrection is vital for our Christian faith.

Saul died as he lived, an unrepentant fool. He leaves us looking forward for the true and better King who was to come. Saul is Dead, Jesus is alive. Long live the King.

How did David respond to tragic circumstances? Unlike Saul a few chapters ago, David strengthens himself in the Lord, and the Lord delivered David from his enemies.

Paul prays for the Colossians to be filled with the knowledge of God so that they can live lives worthy of the Gospel they have received. This knowledge centers on the powerful redemptive work of God through his beloved Son. This pray contains "ingredients" for a Christian to be mature and grow in their faith.

If you are feeling distant from the Lord by not being saved, being in sin or just trying to survive hard times, you must know that Lord is God and put your faith in him, repent of your sins and put your hope in God and Praise Him, no matter what your circumstances.

David and his men left Israel to live under the auspices of the Philistines. During that time, David is operating as a double agent; fighting against the enemies of God while pretending to fight the people of God. But it is at this point that David is nearly forced to actually fight against the Lord's people. David's only escape is through the kind providence of a merciful God.

David again spares Saul's life

When should you answer a fool? When should you not respond?

All true, redeemed, blood-bought Christians should have a co-laboring, cooperating spirit, working together to advance God's kingdom.

Don't use God's providence as an excuse to sin. The true and better king, Christ, wins by humble mercy, love and personal sacrifice. Like Christ, we are called to overcome evil with good.

Paul receives an encouraging report on the church in Colosse, and expresses thanksgiving for their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, their love for all the saints, and their hope and assurance of eternal life in heaven. We can learn much from how this church worshiped God and loved Christ's bride, the church.

When David was fearful, doubting, and discouraged, Jonathan "strengthened his hand in God." God has given us a great blessing by allowing us to be part of a body that is designed to encourage and edify one another in times of need.

What does judgment look like? It can look like God removing His hand of restraint from someone's life, allowing them to do exactly what they want to do. As God removes His hand of restraint from Saul, he allows his paranoia and fear rule over him, leading him to commit genocide against the house of the Lord.

David tries to protect himself from Saul in ways that does not depend on God, but in his own cleverness. However, the consequences of David's sinful lack of trust in the Lord lead to the death of many.

After encouraging the Thessalonians through his letter, he gives them several verses of application to help them to be sober minded.

We proclaim Christ, and Him crucified.

Psalm 14:1 tells us "The fool has said in his heart, "There is no God."" Dont' be a "practical athiest" and live as if Gode does not exist. Unsaved sinner: run to Jesus turn away from your sinful life and embrace the salvation that comes only from Him. Christian: Look at Christ, Live for Him, live more like Christ.

The surest defense we have against temptation is the power of God's word.

Highly Exalted

In our previous sermon we learned that we were to be faithful like a farmer, soldier, and athlete. This week we are told how to train our mind for that kind of service.

The apostle Paul gives Timothy three good examples on how to live the Christian life. The good soldier who aims to please the one who enlisted him. The athlete who wins the crown by competing according to the rules. The hard working farmer who is consistently faithful in the daily details of life.
