Let's Talk Faith and Justice

Different from other episodes, Lyndon takes to the streets to talk to people in Victoria, BC about one joy and one struggle they may have. With difficult circumstances in the world, and difficult episodes on the horizon, this episode is meant to be a break from the deep dive on topics that is the usual format. 

Boston and Lyndon have a chance to discuss Bishop Susan Johnson's recent experience at Camp Morgan. Boston and Lyndon reflect on local events on National Day of Truth and Reconciliation. They then go on to discuss local and regional efforts, look to the recent Manitoba election, and how they believe the church as an institution can move forward with reconciliation.

This episode, Boston and Lyndon reflect on their experiences at the counter protests organized in response to the anti-trans and anti-SOGI demonstrations. They also discuss the strengths and weaknesses of wide-spread organizing on social media, police response to the protests and counter protests, and their thoughts on how we can organize in safe and effective ways.

In early 2023, a request went out in the UVic Inclusive Christians Club Discord channel: what could be a good church sign to put up that is Queer-affirming? Marc Allen replied with the idea "God they/them, Jesus he/him, Holy Spirit she/her." Boston and Lyndon discuss the phrase "there is no hate like Christian love." This phrase is most often seen in the comments section of megachurch preachers saying violent and exclusionary things. They discuss how communities can combat the hateful rhetoric spread by these preachers and actually show the Christian love everyone talks about.

Listen as Boston and Lyndon discuss the issue of megachurches in Canada. The way they often get people through the door by having a welcoming image, and how people find out too late that they are not what they seem. As always Lyndon is able to find hope at the end of the episode and reflects on how small congregations could take the methods of megachurches and use them for good.

When the KKK started advertising in Lexington, VA, Pr. Lyndon and other community members decided they needed to act. In this episode, Lyndon discusses his experiences in setting up Lexington's annual MLK Day Parade. Boston and Lyndon then go on to discuss why community organizing is so important, some fears around it, and how to progressive Christian groups can organize.
