Let the Prophets Speak

God responds to Isaiah's prayer. It is not My fault that the people didn't listen to Me. i came but they did not want me, I called out to them but they did not answer! However, God says that He will still redeem the people, He will never forget His children, and redemption shall come.

Isaiah continues the prayer to God he began in chapter 63. God, you chose to hide Yourself and make us suffer all these years, is it any wobder that the people have turned away from You? Isaiah begs God to bring back the days when His justice was apparent to all, and end the anger and punishment that has gone on for too long.

Isaiah has a vision of God returning from punishing the nations that refused to give up their arrogant ways. It is a scary vision of God in blood-soaked military clothing, but one that reflects the punishment of the haughty about which we have been warned. Isaiah declares that he will never stop demanding of God that Zion and Jerusalem be rebuilt as promised. He will never stop until Zion becomes the beacon of Justice that God had declared. In a dramatic speech, he then beseeches the Jewish people to never ever give up on demanding that god fulfill His promise, and that should never stop working to rebuild Zion.

Isaiah speaks of his pride and good fortune to have been chosen by God to bring the news of peace and redemption to the world

God speaks to Zion and declares that all of the nations of the world that are ready to change their evil ways will come to serve God in Jerusalem. The light of God will shine upon all. No longer will there be dishonesty in Jerusalem, and the riches of the world will be devoted to the service of God.

Isaiah berates the people for their dishonesty, and their taking advantage of others. When God comes and checks on His people, He finds that no one is standing up for truth! So God Himself has to step in and bring the redemption, but only to those who get His message and repent of their dishonest ways.

This chapter is read in the synagogue on the holiest day of the Jewish calendar, on the fast of yom Kippur. God tells us what he really wants from us. God criticizes the selfish ones who think that there is no gain in beung faithful. Don't we all die anyway? He compares the people who stray to an unfaithful spouse, one who seeks out the approval of everyone else other than her own spouse. So are the people who look to other powers for support instead of God. "I will not be angry forever!," says God, "I have seen your ways and I want to heal you!...

God tells the childless and the convert, My house is for all the nations. anyone who pursues Justice, lives righteously, and keeps my sabbath and my covenant is welcome is my home. The chapter also ends with a rebuke of those selfish ones who don't get the message, who seek their own pleasure, and eat and drink instead of act appropriately toward their fellow.

In one of the most famous chapters in the book of Isaiah, the prophet beseeches us to repent, to come back to God with sincerity and truth. My ways are not like your ways, I can forgive, i will have mercy on those who turn to Me.

God reassures Zion once again that all her children will come home. Zion will be populated by righteous people and no longer suffer shame.

The people of Israel bring their message of peace, joy and redemption to Zion and Jerusalem. The news of peace and redemption reverberates to the ends of the Earth. No longer will evil and arrogant people be free to destroy, mock, and oppress the people of God.

God declares, as i asked you to comfort Zion, I will be the One who comforts you! With knowledge of My strength and support, you can convey this message to Jerusalem: No longer shall you drink the cup of suffering and torment, as God is bringing your children back, and the cup of torment will be passed to your tormentors to drink.

In this portion, Isaiah beseeches God. You God created the tormentors of israel and the beasts that cause suffering. Please God, Wake up! wake up! and redeem them like You did in the days of old.

Isaiah begs the people to listen, and asks them to look back at their past. As Abraham and Sarah were unique in their day, so to are God's faithful people today. Don't be afraid because you are alone. Just as God was with them, He is with you.

In this chapter, Isaiah reminds us how God gave him the gift to speak like the angels, and that God warned him that the people would not listen. Nonetheless, Isaiah carried on with the message God commanded him to convey to the people, despite much abuse and personal hardship. Zion cries that she has been forgotten, and bereft of her children. God reassures Zion that she will never be forgotten. Her children will return, and indeed they will bring along the nations of the world to populate Jerusalem and worship the One God together.

Isaiah describes again the process of redemption and the sepcial role of the Chosen people. God redeems His chosen, and through their redemption follows the redemption of all oppressed peoples. Then, and only then will the mountains rejoice in song, and thirst and hunger will no longer afflict the poor.

The people of Israel address the nations of the world. Yes, we were God's people from the beginning. However, God told us that it is not enough for Him to take us under His wings and restore our honor, He had something much bigger in mind. God took us under His wings so that we should be a light until the nations, so that His Deliverance will permeate all of His creation.

God continues to address the Jewish people. If only you had listened to Me the whole time, you would have had everlasting peace. My teachings were for your benefit. I have been there for you this whole time, and I will be here for you forever.

God speaks to the outwardly pious but inwardly hypocritical people and explains why in the "old days" He used to predict and perform miracles, but now He chooses to teach us faith and trust in God through trials and suffering. Knowing the future may not be the best path to leading a righteous life.
