Nicholas Andrew Esasky was born on February 24, 1960 in Hialeah, Florida. At the age of 18, he was drafted in the first round of the 1978 MLB draft by the Cincinnati Reds. He spent 5 years in the minor leagues before being called up for the second half of the 1983 season to replace Johnny Bench at third base.
