Periodically, we do a LIVE version of our show, which we did on 8 August. We invited author and CEO, Stephen Sontsrom, to join us to discuss the tenets of his book, Leadership in Two Steps. Focusing on his book but opening up to other topics, here's the first part of that discussion.

Chief and Dr Lugo cuss and discuss the idea and the TRUTH about motivation. Dr Lugo even makes up a word! He’s a PhD. He can do that, evidently! Is motivation extrinsic or Intrinsic? Can leaders really motivate others, even themselves? Or do they merely inspire others to motivate themselves? So many questions…. Listen for answers….

Dr Lugo and Chief have an AMAZING discussion on empowerment; what it means, how you do it, IF you do it, and other topics. They practice the lesson they learned from Dr Stephen Covey to agree to disagree agreeably. You may find that your idea of empowerment isn't the same as either Dr Lugo's or Chief's. 

Who’s responsible for creating the culture of an organization? Could it be the leader? How does he/she do so? Could it be by modeling behavior that the leader wants to develop and perpetuate? What, exactly, or almost exactly are those behaviors that an effective leader models? So many questions. So many perspectives. At least two….

Why can't we talk? Why can't we discuss important topics such as politics and religion? Why is it taboo to do so in the workplace? Is it because we don't know how to do so in a mutually respectful way? That's what Dr Lugo and Chief Vásquez discuss in this episode.
