God presented a mission that was fulfilled in Jesus and presented to the church to continue on. Mission is more than "missions." It is the redemptive story woven throughout the Bible whose ultimate purpose is to restore all of creation. I think it’s important we understand how a fan and a follower would react when presented with an opportunity to either show grace or deny it. It sure seems like when people say, Anyone is welcome, or anyone can cash in on this deal, they don’t really mean anyone. When Jesus says anyone, he means everyone, with no qualifications. We don’t have any excuses. While He makes his invitation to anyone, He also guarantees that it will cost you everything. Are you ready? Are you willing to follow the rabbi Jesus?

Every Sunday churches are filled with fans of Jesus. We should all know, though, that Jesus doesn't want fans, he wants followers. What's the difference? We will discover that together as we ask the question, "Are you a fan, or a follower, of Jesus?

Every year, we take a look back at what we have gone through as a church and then turn our sights toward the future. How have we grown in 2021 and how does God want to lead us in 2022. Let's take a look at the vision God is giving us as we grow in Him!

It seems clear to me what our mission is. We are to go and tell all people about Him! How comforting to know the plan, though. God’s plan is perfect. You know, everybody who is reading this is probably agreeing with me right now, but what are we going to do about it? We have everything at our disposal to be a success for God and we have been commanded by God. Let’s stop sitting around and do it!

Isaiah 9:2;6 — "The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned…For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders, And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." Christmas day has passed, but Christmas isn't over!

Today we look at the story of John the Baptist talking with a crowd, pointing them to Jesus. The truth of John the Baptist compels us to give of ourselves, in some small way, for God's presence to be made known in all our lives. The advent of God is made known not through the getting, but in the giving.

When I think of John the Baptist, I am reminded of the Emergency Broadcast System. John was assigned by God the task of alerting the people of Israel that the Messiah was on his way. Hell is real! God’s wrath is real too, but Jesus’ death satisfied God’s wrath. Sometimes we will sit around and say how terrible and horrible hell is, and it is, but God did something about it. He sent his son Jesus to die on the cross for our sins. He has given us a way out! You don’t have to die holding on to your sins hoping that things will work out...they won’t. We don’t have to fear hell!

Eternal life doesn’t start when we die, it starts now. If we will still be who we are when this age ends and the next begins, where does that leave us? We have talked much about what it means to bring the kingdom of God to his world, I don’t think Jesus was joking when he said...”Your kingdom come, your will be done.”

We are going to spend the next few weeks investigating what Heaven and Hell are, what they will be like, and what difference they are going to make in our lives. I hope you join us for this exciting journey!
