How can Jesus say "blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth" when much of life seems to only reward aggression, strength, and bravado?  Listen in, as we consider yet another counterintuitive gospel paradigm, and see how Scripture defines true meekness, inheritance, and blessing.  

In Part 3 of our series, we spoke of one type of mourning the love of Jesus comforts - the mourning over personal sin.  Here, in Part 4, we see an example of such heartfelt and repentant mourning in Psalm 51 by David, a great sinner, who knew an even Greater Savior.  

In the second beatitude, Jesus say those who mourn are blessed and will be comforted - but how?  And with what measure?  Listen as Scripture continues to refocus our view and perspective through the lens of the Gospel.  

The church from the first century to the twenty-first century, from Laodicea to Lake Worth, perpetually needs Jesus' reminder that the kingdom of heaven belongs to the poor in spirit.  

The grand entrance into the palace of Jesus' words in the Sermon on the Mount, is the section of nine paradoxical statements called the Beatitudes.  Enter in and hear how Jesus redefines the blessed life as seen through the lens of the Gospel.   

After the arrest of John the Baptist, Jesus withdraws into Galilee and calls his first disciples.  Is this withdraw by Jesus one of defeat, or is it part and parcel of his greater gospel strategy?  Listen as this passage sheds light on Christ's kingdom and those called to it.

In the temptation of Jesus in the wilderness, we see more than merely a theological exhibition or a "going through the motions."  This account sheds further light on the reality and role of the Messiah, Jesus Christ, given for our salvation.  

In the preaching of John and the baptism of Jesus, many themes of King Jesus and his kingdom are intertwined and displayed: his example and our obedience, our repentance and his righteousness, and much more.  John prepared the way of the Lord in his day and we are called to a similar preparation and pointing to Jesus, in ours. 

In a way we all live "after Jesus was born in Bethlehem" (Matt. 2:1), but what does such living look like?  This text helps us see some of what came to pass at the birth of Jesus Christ and what it still means for us today. 

Scripture encourages us to bring our entire selves before God, even hard questions and raw emotions.  As Eugene Peterson once remarked, "the totality of God's concern is with the totality of our humanity."
