What do we do when we feel overwhelmed? When our anxiety and fears threaten to swallow us up? Where do we turn? What do we depend on? As believers, we know that our hope in times of trouble comes from faith in Jesus and the steadfastness of his promise.

This morning we arrive at the final of our values: Commission. The church of Jesus Christ is commissioned into the world with the good news of the gospel.

This morning, we want to look at our next core value: Commit. In some ways the American church has commitment issues. This is because we have come to view the weekly gathering of believers as optional rather than essential. As we study Acts this morning, we'll see that the early church was marked by a commitment to Jesus and one another, expressed in service and generosity.

Today we begin our new series, Vision & Values. In this series, we'll focus on the identity of Lake Murray Baptist Church; specifically, who we are, what we do, and why it matters. In this message, we'll study Acts 2:42-47 and see how God’s unmistakable power is demonstrated when His people live connected to one another in true biblical community. 

As we bring our Songs of Summer series to a close, we consider Psalm 150. This psalm demonstrates that as followers of Jesus, we seek to praise the Lord everywhere, for everything, and in every way.

All of us have experienced the anxiety of breaking down. Where do we turn when we have broken down? When we need help? When we are aware of our own deficiencies? Psalm 130 is a call for God’s help and mercy in recognition of our own sin and inability to complete the journey before us.

Psalm 121 is a psalm of confidence in God's protective care. The Lord is our keeper and He promises to protect his people from the power of evil for all eternity.

Psalm 113 is a call to praise the Lord for his greatness and sovereignty, but it is also a reminder of his grace and compassion. This psalm teaches us that the Lord receives praise from a transformed life; a life that seeks to exalt and exemplify Christ in all things.

We were designed to sing, and we were designed to aim our song to the One who designed us.  The church glorifies God when her knowledge of Him results in songs of praise, joy, and thankfulness.

Psalm 84 reminds us that the presence of God fulfills all our desires, gives daily strength, and leads to trust in Him.

As we continue our journey through the Psalms, today we'll look to Psalm 32.  This Psalm teaches us how confession of sin leads us to experience the blessing of God’s forgiveness and the joy of his fellowship.

Psalm 4 is a reminder that the Lord brings peace to those who trust Him in the midst of difficult circumstances.

We begin our new series, Songs of Summer, with Psalm 1. The first Psalm teaches us how the perfect righteousness of Christ saves us from the way of the wicked and leads us to the blessed life.

Our study of the letter to the 7 churches concludes with the message to Laodicea.  Jesus corrects His church of complacency and self-sufficiency through the refining power of His presence and promise.

The modern church can take heart in Jesus' message to the church at Philadelphia. We have full confidence that He welcomes those who have confessed His name and kept His word into His kingdom.

The central truth from Jesus' message to Sardis is still applicable to the modern church; that He awakens us from spiritual slumber into faithful service and full fellowship with the Father.

Just as He commanded the church at Thyatira, Jesus calls us to reject false teaching and unfaithful practice by holding fast to His word and promise.

This week we will study the words written to the church at Pergamum. Jesus calls the church to repent of idolatry and immorality in return for His promises of inheritance, invitation, and identity. 

Today we'll examine the words written to the church at Smyrna.  In this passage, we will find how Christian suffering leads to spiritual enrichment, calls for faithful endurance, and secures a reward of eternal significance. Today we'll begin our walkthrough of the letter to the 7 churches of Revelation.  In this introduction, we'll study the authorship, purpose, themes, and modern relevance of this letter.
