Graham Gardemeyer, a 2024 KVMR Youth News Corps graduate, invited 3 fellow Nevada Union High School students to our studios to record a conversation about Nitrous Oxide abuse in our county. That conversation makes up the first episode of a podcast he’s calling “Fresh Voices of the Foothills.” 

Members of Indivisible Nevada County have formally invited Congressman Kevin Kiley to participate in a Town Hall meeting on March 20th at the Miners Foundry in Nevada City from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. The meeting will focus on how recent budget cuts are impacting the community. 

Political engagement remains high In Nevada County even during non-election years as demonstrated by the number of people who participated in Saturday’s Women’s day March and then again on Monday when representatives from Congressman Kevin Kiley’s office visited the Rood Center. KVMR’s Lydia Thomas was at both events and filed this report. 

The 22-year-old driver of the car was arrested for vehicular manslaughter and booked into the Nevada County Jail. Authorities do not believe that alcohol or drugs were a factor in the collision though the investigation remains active. Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to call the Truckee Police Department at (530) 550-2320.

KVMR’s Cy Musiker explains the meeting last night was a brainstorming session on how to keep the community center thriving. 

The Grass Valley Police department announced the arrest on their social media account. The investigation and arrest are related to tips received from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children regarding the possession of child pornography by several local individuals.  

The Union reports that the water district is considering selling surplus land once meant for Centennial Dam.

The meeting will take place on Thursday, March 6th from from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Miners Foundry Cultural Center in Nevada City. The meeting is open to everyone. Learn more on the city's website .

Local boat launches have been closed to motorized watercraft since December after the discovery of the Golden Mussel in Delta waters.

The P.L.U.R. philosophy—Peace, Love, Unity, and Respect—will be in full effect tonight at the Madelyn Helling Library. Professional DJ and composer Motive Within will spin a drum and bass set right after opening sets by local DJs, Tinfoil Trees and Irregular Fantasies . The free all-ages dance party will kick off at 6:30 p.m.

Although funding for the work has been secured, repairs to the Squirrel Creek crossing in Western Gateway Park can't begin until water levels are low and safe.

The city council adopted Resolution 2025-03 during Tuesday's regular meeting.

PG&E will begin repairs to the Spaulding Powerhouse 2 next week and when they start, little to no water will flow into Scotts Flat and Rollins lakes. 

The closures will give crews time to repair erosion damage. No reopening date has been given.

12 gray wolves were recently captured in northern California and fitted with tracking collars. Five of those wolves are part of the Beyem Seyo pack in Sierra County.
