The Eel River Recovery project is partnering with Cal Fire and others to bring a series of prescribed burns to the Ten Mile Creek drainage north of Laytonville, in order to make the ecosystem more resilient in the face of wildfires.  Sigur-Björn spoke to burn boss Scot Steinbring, who is overseeing the winter-long operation.

On October 2nd, the US Department of Energy announced the termination of 321 financial awards that support 223 projects nationwide. Among these awards was the Tribal Energy Resiliency and Sovereignty (TERAS) project that would provide tribal and rural lands with nested microgrids to improve energy resiliency in the areas. Cal fire Humboldt Del Norte Unit and Cal Fire Mendocino Unit announced today that the burn permit suspensions that were set in place earlier this year in June have been lifted due to increased rain and overall weather. Nat Cardos reports.

Though not unanimous, the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors wants the county to be ready to oppose offshore oil drilling. Daniel Mintz reports.
